The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition Obituaries, May 8, 2006 SARAH MOSER SHEETS Sarah Moser Sheets, passed away April 20, 2006, in Wilsonville, Oregon, after a short illness. She was 95. Mrs. Sheets was born Sarah Elizabeth Moser, July 28, 1910, in Dawn, Missouri. She graduated with a degree in music from Central College in Fayette, Missouri in 1933. She married J. Eugene (Gene) Sheets in New York City on July 3, 1937, and had two children, Jim and Sandra. They moved to Brownsville, Texas, in 1948 where Mr. Sheets became manager of the Brownsville Social Security Office. Mrs. Sheets was a substitute teacher in the Brownsville School system in the 1950s and played piano accompaniment for the Brownsville High School Choir. She was the assistant librarian at Brownsville High School from 1955 until 1965, and then became head librarian at Stell Junior High School until her retirement in 1969. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church, Brownsville. She often played piano duets with the organist at Sunday services. She was active in the Brownsville Medical Center auxiliary program for many years, contributing over 1,000 hours of volunteer time. In addition, she volunteered her time at the local Food Bank. Mrs. Sheets was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in 1986 and her son, Jim, in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Berry of Wilsonville, Oregon, her granddaughter, Nena and husband Michael, and great grandsons Chris and Ryan; her grandson, John and wife, Victoria, all of Oregon; her daughter-in-law, Betsy Sheets and grandsons, Shawn and Kelly of Brownsville and sister-in-law Doris Washburn of Kansas City, Missouri; two nieces and two nephews. Memorials may be made to the Youth Music Scholarship Fund at the First Presbyterian Church, 435 Palm Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78520. No services are planned. LAURO ACOSTA DE LA FUENTE Lauro Acosta De La Fuente, 52, was called by the Lord, Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his beloved family. He was born Feb. 18, 1954, in Santander Jimenez, Tamps. He was a resident of Brownsville for most of his life, and a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Lauro had worked with A.D. Welding Co., F.A. Company in Los Fresnos, before he had passed on Lauro had been working with Godel Construction Co., for numerous years. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan De La Fuente, and one brother, Roberto De La Fuente. He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty three blessed years in marriage, Eufemia De La Fuente, of Brownsville, his beloved mother, Ma. Moncerratt A. De La Fuente, of San Antonio, Texas, four daughters, Marisa (Fily) Ibarra, Yesenia De La Fuente, both from Brownsville, Erica (Raul Perez, of Tomball, Texas and Laura De La Fuente, one son, Lauro (Geovanna) De La Fuente Jr., both from Brownsville, four sisters, Manuela F. Rodriguez, of San Antonio, Texas, Juanita Gutierrez, of Brownsville, Texas, Fide (Joe) Olguin, and Mary (Andy) Chavez, both from San Antonio, Texas, five brothers, Felix (Rebecca) De La Fuente, of Los Fresnos, Texas, Alfredo De La Fuente, of Brownsville, Texas, Andy (Elda) De La Fuente, of San Antonio, Texas, Joe (Nelda) De La Fuente, of Brownsville, Texas, and Alex (Carmen) De La Fuente, of San Antonio, Texas. He had a total of five beautiful grandchildren, which he adored and cherished with all his love. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2006 with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Delta Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Rose Lawn Cemetery. VIRGINIA SMITH BROWN Mrs. Virginia Smith Brown, 86, formerly of Brownsville, died Friday, May 5, 2006 in Spartanburg, S.C. A graveside service for Mrs. Brown will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Stokesdale United Methodist Church Cemetery. A native of Billings, Oklahoma, Mrs. Brown was born on Nov. 9, 1919 the daughter of the late Fred Eldon and Winifred Neil Smith. She was a homemaker and the wife of Edgar Adams Brown who preceded her in death in 1986. Surviving are her daughters Ginny Conway (Tom) of Columbus, NC and Margaret Ann Bowden (Bruce) of Greensboro, NC, sister Colleen Bannert (William) of Brownsville, Texas, grandsons Jeffrey Todd Bennett of Anderson, SC, and Patrick Scott Bennett of Greensboro, NC, and five great grandchildren Andrew Bennett, Gabe Bennett, Allie Bennett, Aidan Bennett, and Celia Bennett.
