GILBERTO 'GIL' MARTINEZ Gilberto "Gil" Martinez, 80, passed away peacefully at his residence Sunday, May 28, 2006. Gil was born in Edna, Texas and had lived all of his life in Brownsville, Texas. He worked as a farm la-bor contractor most of his life along with his sons and his brother, Chivo Martinez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Paulita Martinez; two brothers, Antonio and Aman-cio "Mancho" Martinez; three sisters, Estefana and Elisa Martinez and Domitila M. Lopez. Gil is survived by his wife of 54 years, Hortensia Martinez; five sons, Gilberto "Toe," Alberto "Chuca," and Hector Martinez, Oscar (Jovita) Martinez, and Ildefonso (Irene) Silguero; two dauthters, Sandra M. Gonzalez and Mary S. Varnum; a brother, Valentin "Chivo" (Josefina) Martinez; three sisters, Beatriz (Eduardo) Lopez, Ofelia (Joe) Molina and Julia Lopez; fifteen grandchildren, Tommie and Amiee Gon-zalez, Hector, Analissa, Aissa, Avy, Oscar, Justin and Ally Martinez, Chuck, Leif, and Anitra Varnum, Anissa, Danny and Amanda Silguero, and three great-grandchildren, Noah Ibarra, Nicolette Barbee and Morgan Hoehaver. Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. today, May 29, 2006, at Garza Memorial Funeral Home. The holy rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chuck and Leif Varnum, Tommie Gonzalez, Hector, Oscar and Justin Martinez, Danny Silguero and Valentin Mata, Jr. Funeral services are under the direction of Joe I.
