The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition Obituaries, August 10, 2006 ALVAH T. "JIMMY" ALLOWAY JR.[/b], 75, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006. Highway 77, San Benito, (956) 361-9192 LOIS EARLE ATEN[/b] Lois Earle Aten, 71, long time resident and piano teacher, was called home to be with the Lord on Sun-day, Aug. 6, 2006, at Valley Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. The daughter of Earl and Maude Hamilton, she was born April 16, 1935, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, where she was raised and graduated from high school. She began taking private piano lessons at an early age, and was the pianist for the First Christian Church there from the time she was 16 when she began her piano teaching career which continued for 55 years. She attended Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City and was married to the Rev. Wilbur R. Aten in April 1955, living in Peabody, Kansas; Pierre, South Dakota; and Borger, Texas, prior to moving to Brownsville in 1967. During the nearly 40 years she lived in Brownsville, she taught a number of ladies Bible study classes. A member of the Texas Music Teachers Association and an active member of the American College of Musicians, in addition to her piano teaching, she was chairman of the National Piano Guild Auditions locally for many years, participating in numerous musical activities throughout the Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents. Having departed this life, she leaves her husband of 51 years; four sons, Mark of Los Fresnos, Scott, and his wife, Lisa, of Cleburne, Texas, Lane, and his wife, Mary, of Brownsville and Todd and his wife, Leigh, of Brownsville; two granddaughters, Lindsay and Kelsay Aten of Cleburne; one brother, Dale, and his wife, Annette, of Hinton, Oklahoma; one niece, An-drea Hamilton Wendorf of Dallas, Texas; other relatives, friends and her piano students who will miss her greatly. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Buena Vista Funeral Home, 125 McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at International Christian Cen-ter, 2855 Paredes Line Road, Brownsville. Graveside services will be held privately. Honorary pallbearers will be Andreas Lewis, James Gale, Patrick Senior and Ralph Wellington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the International Seamen's Center, P.O. LUIS ANGEL MARTINEZ Luis Angel Martinez entered into the loving arms of the Lord at the age of 16 years on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, in Hammon, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jesus Aurelio Martinez. Luis Angel is survived by his loving family, parents Armando Martinez and Maria Esther Gomez Martinez; brothers and sister Jesus Armando Martinez, Zulema Celeste Martinez and Nicolas Martinez; paternal grandmother Maria Guadalupe Martinez; maternal grandparents Jesus Gomez Ramirez and Ninfa Salinas; uncles Jorge, Jesus, Luis Carlos, Gustavo, Valentin, Vicente and Damian; aunts Guadalupe, Blanca, Guillermina, Giselle, Esmeralda, Leticia and numerous other relatives. MARIA ELISA CASAS Maria Elisa Casas, 41, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Aug. 9, 2006. She made this world a bet-ter place. She is survived by her husband, Julio Casas; her two children, Elisha and Stefan; her parents, George and Elisa Urbina; and her siblings, Jeaneet, Daisy and George. For 17 years, Maria Elisa Casas had the toughest job in the Navy being a Navy wife: taking care of the home, raising two Navy brats and having a full time job while her husband was on deployment. She graduated from Porter High School in 1983. She married in 1986 and moved to Hawaii to be with her husband. In 1989, she moved to San Diego, Calif., and lived there for 14 years. In 2003, her husband re-tired from the Navy and decided to come back to Brownsville, Texas. She was a doctor's assistant for more than 15 years. She left behind many friends in San Diego and the Rio Grande Valley area, Marina, Claudia, Thelma, Jessie, Empy, Luisita, Annita, Alejandra, Yolanda, Dr. Minto, Elizabeth, Mari, Cristi, Brenda, Mel Andrea, Reynaldo, Rosie, Nora.. Lord Jesus Christ! Through Thy Sign of Eternal Love, open Heaven today and take Maria Elisa Casas into the Realm of Thy Heavenly Father that she may reign with Thee now and forever. Amen. Cavazos, 85, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006. She was born at El Carmen Ranch, Texas, and had lived most of her life in Brownville. She was a very loving and caring person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her husband, Jesus Narciso Cavazos, preceded Maria in death. She is survived by 10 children, Esmerjildo Cavazos, Tomasa C. Garza, Faustina C. Marrero, Hortensia Cavazos, Jesus N. Cavazos Jr., Maria Del Carmen C. Serrata, Pedro Narciso Cavazos, Guadalupe C. Ward, Carolina C. Gutierrez and Esequiel Cavazos; a sister, Guadalupe Flores; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with an evening service at 7 p.m. at Garza Memorial Funeral Home.
