The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition Obituaries, August 20, 2006 RUTH MARIE METZGER Absent from the body present with the Lord, Ruth Marie Metzger had her graduation Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at the age of 75. Ruth was born on Sept. 16, 1930, in Glen Clove, Long Island, New York, to Charles Rowland and Mabel Evelyn Shaw. She loved the Lord and served as a missionary since 1959 in Brownsville and Mexico. She was a won-derful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be missed dearly. But we know she is with her savior, whom she loved so much. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lorraine Claire Aguilar on Sept. 22, 1993. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Roy Metzger; their children, Mabel (Tino) Gomez, Willie (Steve) Cody, Mike (Leeza) Metzger, William (Sandra) Metzger and Jeff (Fela) Metzger; a son-in-law; Joe Aguilar; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ruben) Gomez, Jennifer (Sergio) Moore, Catherine (Chad) Kovar, Mel Aguilar, Susan (Wes) Aguilar, Chris and Casey Metzger, Isarel Herevia, Anita Paiz, Nadia and Joel Alaniz, Steve II (Lupita), Tim, Elizabeth Cody, William, Vanessa Lorraine Metzger, Abram-Lee, and Ezequiel Metzger; great-grandchildren James Gomez, Tino Garcia, Abby and Breanna Kovar, Steve III, Audrey, and Ryan Cody. Visitation began on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at 9 a.m. and continued through 7 p.m., the family greeted friends from 5-7 p.m., and an evening service was held at 7 p.m. in the Darling-Mouser Chapel. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Mike, William, Jeffery Metzger, Steve Cody II, Chad Kovar and William Metzger Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in memory of Ruth to one of her fa-vorite causes, which is Christmas Bags for the needy children in Mexico. Egly was born in Brownsville, Texas, and went to Heaven on Aug. 17, 2006, where she was reunited with her husband of 43 years, Victor. She is survived by her daughters Linda Egly, Deborah Wilkes and husband Stephen; son Victor Egly; two grandchildren, Paul and Amy; sisters Rosita Ortiz, Sylvia Laulon-Barron. We want to thank the staff of Christian Care Center, Roberts House for their loving care and personal atten-tion they provided to our mother. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006 at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Matias Gonzalez and Flora Vega; her siblings, Guadalupe Cavazos, Francisca Garza, Fortino Gonzalez and Andres Gonzalez. She is survived by her husband, Agustin Barrera; daughters Ofelia (Mario) Martinez of Brownsville, Otila (Jhonny) Tijerina of Okeechobee, Florida, Olga Barrera of Brownsville; son Samuel (Tomasita) Barrera of Brownsville and daughter Enedelia (Eliud) Alonzo of Brownsville. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful and caring mother who will be missed. Visitation will be held today, Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Templo Sinai Assem-blea De Dios, Brownsville, Texas. Pallbearers will be Samuel Barrera Jr., Daniel Barrera, Jhonny Tijerina, Danny Tijerina, Eliud Cavazos, Eliud Alonso, Armando Alonso and Aldo Barrera. She was also an active member of the church for 32 years, and her pastors were Tomas Amaya and Zoila Amaya Committal service will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. To our dad: Our father was a very valuable man, for God, his children and friends. His life was to work the fields and to love his wife and children. He was an untouchable man. We say goodbye with our great love for-ever. We love you always, Your wife and children He was preceded in death by his sons, Ramiro and Modesto Garcia. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Maria Socorro Garcia Uribe; his children, Aurora, Ci-priano, Herminia, Ruben, Maria Luisa, Jose Luis, Martin Jr., Jesus and Norma; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Sixta Figueroa. Visitation will be held today, Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will resume on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be conducted at 7 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville, Texas.
