The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition Obituaries August 29, 2006 DOROTHY GRACE STOVALL SHARPE Dorothy Grace Stovall Sharpe, 94, of Forth Worth, a life-long wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and a strong Christian believer and faithful church member died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006. Dorothy Sharpe was born June 19, 1912, in Fort Apache, Ariz. Indian reservation. She had a great sense of humor and always said, "I was born on an Indian reservation on emancipation day for the slaves in Texas before Arizona became a state." She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge T. Gilbert Sharpe and her parents Henry and Floye Leslie Stovall. She is survived by her three children, Thomas Gilbert Sharpe Jr. of Brownsville, John (Mary) Sharpe of Fort Worth, Sharon (Jim) Lemons of Pflugerville; 11 grandchildren, Carlyle Sharpe of Springfield, Mo., Steele (Nece) Sharpe of Las Vegas, Nev., James Gilbert Sharpe of Broomfield, Colo., Tracy (Colin) McNeese of Frisco, Texas, Leslie Sharpe Zvitt of Chicago, Ill., Emily (Brian) Warren of Fort Worth, Elizabeth (Landry) Burdine of Aledo, Texas, Elaine Sharpe of Houston, John Christian Michael Sharpe of Fort Worth, John (Debbie) Lemons of Houston, Kelly Jeanne Lemons of Austin and seven great-grandchildren. Dorothy and Gilbert Moved to Brownsville from San Antonio in January 1946. The following Sunday, she and her husband, joined the Methodist Church. She continued to be active in the First United Methodist Church until she moved to Fort Worth in August 2003. Dorothy and Gilbert founded the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School class which Gilbert taught for 23 years. Dorothy was always active in the Sunshine Circle. She was the president of the United Methodist Women and taught Bible School. Other community activities that she was involved in over the years were The Brownsville Junior Service League and the Cameron County Bar Association auxiliary. Dorothy was an avid bridge player from the age of 16. She played in many foursomes and in tournament play at the Valley Inn and Country Club. For many years she played in her Wednesday foursome, the "Golden Girls Club" with Carol Champion, Gay Roberson and Guilda Cameron. Dorothy was a great cook and was always the first to bring her rum cake, chicken spaghetti or lace cookies to friends who had a birthday or just needed a lift. Dorothy's friends were always a priority with her. She always kept up with them through the telephone, letters and the many cards she sent for birthdays and anniversaries. She will be greatly missed by her family. They will always remember her for her faithfulness to God, the love of her church, and as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The entire time she was ill, she always kept her sense of humor and she had a great inner strength. Dorothy left a wonderful legacy for her family and friends and she will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville at a date to be announced. Interment will be at noon Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the First United Methodist Church in Brownsville. Puentes, 82, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Aug. 27, 2006, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her beloved family. Maria was born in San Felipe, Guanjuato, Mexico, on May 28, 1924, to Cosme and Francisca R. Rivera. She had been a lifetime resident of Brownsville and a member of Christ the King Church. She is preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Gregorio Puentes. She is survived by her loving family, six daughters, Maria De Luz (Ambrocio) Silva of Brownsville, Martha P. (Iain) Dobbie of Houston, Olga L. Glasgow, of Brownsville, Maria Isabel P. (Armando) Rivera, Elena P. (Rufino) Galvan, of Tampa, Fla., Felicitas P. Barrientos, of Brownsville; two sons, Luis Fernando Puentes of Brownsville, and Alejandro (Maria) Puentes of Brownsville; honorary daughter (care provider) Monica Sanchez; one sister, Josefina Gonzalez, of Brownsville; one brother, Jose Antonio Rivera (Guadalupe), Of Matamoros, Mexico. Maria had 25 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Delta North Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Buena Vista. Fuentes, 98, of Brownsville entered into eternal rest on Aug. 27, 2006, in Brownsville. Joe was a tailor with Perl Brothers Mens Clothing Store and served in the U.S. Cavalry 124th from 1929 to 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Maria L. Fuentes; his wife, Yolanda Z. Fuentes; a brother; and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Penny O. (Robert) Bragg of Puryear, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Samantha Kersten of Bettendorf, Iowa; a grandson, Jack Bragg of Buchanan, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren, Mackinzie M. Kersten, Sophia J. Kersten, Jeremy Bragg and Whitney Green; a brother, Fernando Fuentes of San Antonio; two sisters, Minerva F. Guiardiola and Alice Cheney both of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
