LUCILLA RIVERA MURILLO Lucilla Rivera Murillo, 80, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 14, 1925, and lived all her life in Brownsville, Texas. She attended Christ the King Catholic Church for many years. She was a great house wife and always a wonderful grandmother and friend to others. Mrs. Murillo is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Murillo; son Geronimo Murillo; granddaughter Susanna Torres; sister Consuelo Hernandez and brothers-in-law Agustin Palacios and Manuel Gomez. She is survived by her children, Juan Murillo Jr. (Guillermina), Gloria Murillo Torres (Pablo), Jose Luis Murillo, Adam Murillo (Silvia), Leticia Murillo Lozano (Mateo), all of Brownsville, Ricardo Murillo of Tennessee, Rene Murillo (Hilda) of Brownsville, Gabriel Murillo (Rosa) and Rogelio Murillo (Zulema), both of Florida; 29 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Ferman Rivera (Ofelia), Andres Rivera (Fina) all of Brownsville, Roberto Rivera (Viola) of Bay City, Daniel Barrientes (Yolanda) of California; sisters, Aurora Palacios, Dolores Gomez, Angelita Guajardo all of Brownsville, Marcela Torres (Juventino) of Georgia, Cecilia Solis of California, Guadalupe Sanchez (Eduardo) and Elida Alvarado (Ruben), both of Brownsville. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Christian service at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2006 at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Garden. Garza, 97, of Brownsville entered into eternal rest at Spanish Meadows Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 5, 2006. Born in Brownsville on January 3, 1909, he attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a longshoreman for about 30 years. Mr. Garza was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria G. Garza, and sons Manuel Garza Jr., Roberto Garza, Reynaldo Garza and Israel Vasquez. Survivors include his children, Sarah Fuentes of Chicago, Ill., George Garza (Stacy) of Gladstone, Ore., Richard Garza of Galveston, Texas, Rogelio Garza (Sylvia) of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Lydia G. Esparza (Vicente) of Brownsville, Texas, Rafael Garza (Linda) of La Porte, Texas, and Daniel Garza (Norma) of Clermont, Ga. Survivors also include his brother, Rafael Garza of Tulare, Calif., as well as 34 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd., (956) 546-7111. MR. RAMIRO LONGORIA Mr. Ramiro Longoria passed away on July 4, 2006. He was born on September 12, 1926, in Donna, Texas, and grew up in Mission, Texas. He was one of 10 children born to Eutimio and Genoveva Longoria. As a child, Ramiro loved running through the city's citrus groves and swimming with his friends. He was an exceptional athlete. In high school, he played tennis and ran track, but his real love was playing football. He was the quarterback of the Mission Eagles in the early '40s and later became an avid golfer. After graduating from high school, Ramiro joined the Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Upon returning from the war, Ramiro used the GI Bill to attend college and graduated from Gradwall School of Medical Technology in St. Louis, Missouri. He later received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Pan American University. Ramiro started working at a very young age, first shining shoes on the city streets of Mission, Texas, and later working as a golf caddie at the city golf course, where he learned to love the game of golf. After graduation from laboratory technology school he worked at a hospital in Sulfur, Oklahoma, where he met and married Johnelle Calame, who was a registered nurse. They moved back to the Valley, and Ramiro spent the majority of his career working at the Serafy Lab and Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. He also spent time as the director of the state lab in San Benito, Texas. Ramiro is survived by his wife of 53 years, Johnelle Longoria; his three loving daughters, Yolanda Swanson, Dr. Elena Marin (Carlos) and Carmen de la Llata (Julio). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kyle Swanson, Leslie Quinn, Julio Andres de la Llata, Diego de la Llata, Diana de la Llata, Tomas Marin and Rebecca Marin; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kaleb Quinn. Ramiro was also the favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews. We will always remember him as a devoted husband and father, who made this world a happier place. May God bless him and take care of him always. We will all miss him dearly.
