    3. The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition Obituaries, July 20, 2006 VIRGINA CISNEROS-STEWART Virgina Cisneros-Stewart, 76, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville. Born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, she now rests peacefully after succumbing to her lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Stewart. She is survived by her children, Rosalinda Teetor of Vail, Ariz., Jeannie Cisneros of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert Cisneros of Brownsville. She also leaves behind six grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. today, July 20, 2006, at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista. Chapel Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2006, at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista. JOYCE ANNA SLAGER Joyce Anna Slager, of Rancho Viejo, went home to be with her Lord on Monday morning, July 17, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Slager, and her grandson Brad Slager. Left to mourn her death are her sister, Jeanette Haugh of Illinois; her sons, David R. (Linda) Slager, and Robert A. (Christine) Slager; her grandchildren, Vickie (Doug) Elley, Russel A. (Sandra) Slager, and Rachel F. (Jimmy) Lee, along with six great-grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mrs. Slager will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006, at First Baptist Church, 1600 Boca Chica Blvd., in Brownsville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Mrs. Slager's name be made to the First Baptist School, 1600 Boca Chica Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78520. Arrangements have been entrusted to Darling-Mouser, 945 Palm Blvd., Brownsville (956) 546-7111. DANNY ALAN BUSH Danny Alan Bush, 58, of Pascagoula, Miss., passed away July 16, 2006, in Pascagoula. He was born on March 28, 1948. Danny was a shrimper all his life. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Bush; his mother, Peggy Williams; and brother, Ronnie Lee Bush. LUIS GILBERTO GALVAN SALCEDO Dr. Luis Gilberto Galvan Salcedo, 58, of Brownsville, died Monday, July 17, 2006, at his home. Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, he previously lived in Avon Lake, Ohio, and lived the last 25 years in Brownsville. He was a surgeon with a specialty in obstetrics. He graduated from the University of Guadalajara-School of Medicine on Jan. 4, 1978 at the age of 29. He was still in active practice. A joyous man, he lived life to the fullest. Stopping to visit with all his many patients and friends, walking his beloved dog could take two hours as he went throughout the neighborhood. He was giving and warm and dedicated to his patients. He loved to dance and enjoyed rock and roll music and his mariachis. He was a big Dallas Cowboys football and Chivas soccer fan. He was actively involved in the local kickball league. Dr. Galvan was readily available to volunteer at local school functions. He was the beloved husband for 31 years of Susan Galvan. He is survived by his mother, Brigida Salcedo; his sisters, Ofelia Galvan Salcedo, Martha Galvan Salcedo, and Guadalupe Galvan Salcedo; and his brother, Mario Galvan Salcedo, all of Guadalajara, Mexico; his daughters, Sarah Nicole Galvan of San Antonio, and Michelle Susan Galvan Mendez (Mario Mendez-husband) of Houston. He was preceded in death by his father Alejandro Galvan Diaz. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 20, 2006, followed by interment at Buena Vista Burial Park. Johnathan Z. Galvan, Juan Zarate, Pat Lehman, Mario Mendez, Art Rendon, Isaac Zarate, Juan M. Zarate Jr., and Miguel Zarate are honored to be serving as Dr. Galvan's pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Alfonso Amezcua, Rayner Cardenas, Javier Garza, and Paul Leal. JOSE JIMENEZ TREVINO Jose Jimenez Treviño, 83, of Brownsville, died July 6, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston. He was born in Brownsville on Jan. 10, 1923. His early childhood was spent in San Pedro, Texas after which he moved to Brownsville after his parents deaths, where he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Felipa and Jose Paz. In 1941, he enlisted in the Army Civilian Convervation Corps, where he served for 16 months. It was at that time that he received his proficient certificate as a Road Bank Sloper. In January 1945, Mr. Treviño earned his certification in Aircraft Materials, Processes, and Specifications, through the Engineering, Science, and Management War Training Program, Department of Engineering, Texas College of Arts and Industries, Kingsville, Texas. He was employed by Pan American World Airway for 18 years as a master mechanic and was assigned to the crash crew. He traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Central, and South America, as well as Europe. Extended assignements were to Campeche and Mexico City, Mexico; Bogota, Columbia; London, England; and Limerick Ireland. He was also employed as an aircraft mechanic for Ice's (Intercontinental Engineer Service) in Brownsville, and at Harlingen for the Confederate Air Force Squadron. Additionally, he worked for many years for Brown and Root, Inc., at the Union Carbide Plant in Brownsville. After the closure of the Union Carbide Plant, Mr. Treviño returned to Education and earned his GED Certificate in May 1979. He continued his studies at Texas Southmost College, in Brownsville, and Texas A&M University in Weslaco and College Station, Texas. He earned his Texas Teacher Certification in June 1981 in Provisional Vocational Industrial, CVAE. He was hired by the Brownsville Independent School District in August 1979 and was assigned to Land O'Lakes Intermediate School. He was also on the Team that opened Oliveira Intermediate in 1979. After six years of service, he retired in May 1985. He was considered a dedicated role model, and was recognized as the most respected teacher on campus. Mr. Treviño operated his own lawnmower repair business, J.J. Lawnmower Service, after his retirement. He will be missed by his family, friends, relatives, colleagues, and past students. Mr. Treviño was preceded in death by his parents Guadalupe Oliveira Jimenez Treviño and Jose Treviño; his sister, Delfa Treviño Cardenas; and his wife of 64 years, Alicia Lugo Martinez Treviño. He is survived by his sons, Jose Jimenez Treviño, Jr. (Virgina), or Yuma, Ariz., Rick-Henry Treviño of Brownsville; and his daughter, Sylvia Treviño Tucker (Marlon) of La Porte, Texas. Additionally, Mr. Treviño is survived by seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. A memorial Mass was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Brownsville on Saturday, July 8, 2006, and Military Funeral Services were held in Houston on Monday, July 10. FRANCISCA MORENO HERNANDEZ Francisca Moreno Hernandez, 71, of Brownsville, was called home to be with her Lord, on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose & Delfina Moreno; her husband, Julian Hernandez; and a brother, Patricio Moreno. Left to mourn her death and cherish her memory, is her son Jose Antonio Hernandez and his wife Sandra Leticia and their children Cristina Jolee & Stephanie Nicole all from Laredo, Texas; two sisters, Rafaela Moreno and Maria (Arnold+) Mumm both from Brownsville; two brothers, Antonio (Celia) Moreno from Brownsville, and Amado (Virginia) Moreno from Houston, together with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and continue through 9 p.m., today, Thursday, July 20, 2006, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2006, at 10 a.m. followed by internment at Buena Vista Burial Park.
