Manuel Garcia Sr., 84, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at his resi-dence in Brownsville. He was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, and enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran and served his county in Africa and Italy. Mr. Garcia was part owner of the Barrel House in Brownsville, Texas. Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Seferina Garcia; and his wife, Petra Rangel Garcia. Left to mourn his death and forever cherish his memory is his loving children, Manuel and Pat Garcia, Josefina and Gil Gonzalez, Pedro "Sonny" de los Santos, Cameron Ponder, Lydia Rivera and Juan Mon-temayor; and one sister, Estella Garcia Guerra. Gonzalez passed away on Wednesday, July 19 ,2006, at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, Texas. Mr. Gonzalez was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He attended Brownsville public schools and St. Joseph Academy and served four years in the U.S. Navy. He was elected Cameron County constable for Precinct 2 in 1981. He served 16 years, four complete terms with pride, dignity and utmost integrity until 1996. During his term as Cameron County constable, his professionalism and dedication made his office number one among all Cameron County constable precincts. Arturo held an advance certificate in civil process and law enforcement. He was an active member of the Democratic Party of Brownsville. He was a member of the Justice of the Peace and Constable Asso-ciation for South Texas and the State of Texas. He also assisted his brother, Jesus M. Gonzalez, at the Grande Barber Shop. Arturo was a strong-minded person with a very good judgment of character. He could always judge a book by its cover. He was also a very compassionate individual with a tender heart. He would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was always full of life, dancing the cumbia with style (He could balance a full glass of water on his head while dancing). His favorite saying was "Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres." He lived a long and fruitful life surrounded by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mariano and Natividad (Munivez) Gonzalez; sister Grace Gonzalez Duval; and brother Jesus "Mr. Chuy" M. Gonzalez.
