ROBERT CARTMELL OVERTON We suffered a great loss when our brother, Robert Cartmell Overton, died suddenly on March 3, 2006. He was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 16, 1942 to Robert and Sammy Beeker Overton and went on to live a fascinating, exciting life. He was raised in Brownsville with his brother and sister where his father was with Pan American. In 1955, the family moved to Pakistan and then to London where they lived until 1967. Bob attended TCU in Fort Worth and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. While based in the Philippines there was a severe earthquake that destroyed many of the major buildings in the area and he was recognized for working endlessly to try and save lives and restore order and received a commendation for his efforts. He then returned to Texas where he married and resided in Fort Worth for many years. He loved to travel and lived in Fredericksburg, Va., where he was able to pursue his love of history and genealogy. He also became an innkeeper for a historical B&B where he enjoyed regaling his patrons with stories of the area. His love of family brought him back to Texas and he lived in Fort Worth and then in Corpus Christi so that he could be near to his mother and his sister. He was a family man and his first thoughts were always of his family and he was "Uncle Kiki" to the children of the family. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wagner Overton, in 1975, and his mother, Sammy Lane Beeker Overton, in 2005. He is survived by his brother James A. Overton, his wife Betsy, their children Mark and Elizabeth of Aurora, Colorado; his sister Anne Overton Haass, and her family Debbie and Bill Stacy of Houston, Texas, and their children Connor, Drake and Shaelyn, Uncle Kiki's Fishing Team. Mary Esther, .. WHERE can you see "Matamoros civil and catholic records"? I have a GG grandparent that surname is LIMBS, given name is Harland. He was married to "Calista RAMOS" according to their sons death certificate. Son was James Harland LIMBS his aka was "Santiago". James was a Methodist Episcopal preacher in California in the 1900's. He was supposedly born in Brownsville. I cannot find anything on his parents nor his birth. There was a Susan Limbs in Cameron Co in the 1870's, with her family she was hoh. She was listed as colored. There are her descendant all over Texas, Arizona and Cal. I have contacted some of them. Our line is not colored but of white and Mexican descent. James married Elena (think her nee was LARA) in Brownsville, maybe? She had a daughter Bessie that had a surname of RUIZ. Bessie, on her death records states her mother's nee was LARA and father was LIMBS (not her true father) ANY help with Matamoros records would be GREATLY appreciated and I am willing to cover the cost of time, coping and postage if need be. Thank you to anyone for help with this fact finding adventure. I would LOVE to find these people while dad is still with us. He never knew his grandparents or great ones. Thanks, Jill in SoCalif
