Garza, 50, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 17, 2006, at his parents' residence surrounded by his family. Juan was born Jan. 29, 1956 in Albion, Mich. His maternal grandparents, Ramiro and Cecilia Garcia and his paternal grandparents, Timoteo and Martina Garza, pre-cede him in death. Juan is survived by his parents, Juan S. Garza Sr. and Maria E. Garcia of Brownsville; three sons, Juan T. Garza of Al-bion, Mich., Jason L. Garza of Houston, Texas and Joshua N. Garza of Brownsville; two sisters, Ophelia Garza of Albion, Mich. and Yolanda M. Garza of Brownsville; two brothers, Jose J. Garza of Portage, Mich. and Librado Garza of Battle Creek, Mich.; and aunt, Carmen Martinez of Brownsville; and uncle, Isidro Garcia of Albion, Mich.; numerous nieces, neph-ews, and cousins by whom he will be greatly missed. GLORIA MARTINEZ SALVIDE Gloria Martinez Salvide, 68, a resident of Corpus Christi, went to be with our Lord on June 17, 2006. Gloria, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was surrounded by family at the time of her departure. She was preceded in death by her father Feliberto Martinez and mother Dora Martinez; sister, Juanita Martinez; son, Ricardo Salvide. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jose N. Salvide; five children, Sara Salvide of Corpus Christi, Joe L. (Genny) Salvide of Sugarland, Texas, Dora E. Sal-vide of Corpus Christi, Texas, Rosie S. (Tim) Morales of Corpus Christi; Annabelle S. (Raymond) Cosme of Corpus Christi; nine grandchildren, Selena, Natalie, Erika, Lucas and Julio Salvide of Sugarland, Texas; Daniella and Eric Morales of Corpus Christi; Jacob and Brianna Cosme of Corpus Christi; one brother, Braulio (Tola) Martinez; one sister, Isabel Martinez; two nieces, Melis sa Martinez and Marissa Collins, all of Saginaw, Texas. Gloria was born in Monte Alto, Texas and lived in Brownsville, Texas until 1999 when she moved to Corpus Christi to be closer to her family. She worked 26 years for Brownsville Manufacturing (Haggar Slacks). She took great pride in her family and friends and the fact that she was able to attend college and travel around the world. She always made her family smile with the vivid and outra-geous outfits she loved to wear so much. Gloria lived every day to the fullest and fought a courageous battle against cancer. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but find comfort and tranquility in that she's resting in peace. The family would like to thank the following: Odyssey Hospice Care for their understanding and much needed help during our trying time. To the entire staff of Bay Area Dialysis especially to Ms. Cindy, Ms. Mary, Ms. Beverly and to fun loving Eli. Thank you for making our mother feel special during a very hard time in her life. To Dr. Cohn, Dr. Ramirez, Dr. Kline - thank you for the care given to our mother over the past several years. A heartfelt thanks to Ms. Baci, a very special angel sent to take care of our mother. Nov. 1992 James R. Ginn, age 86, died after a long illness on Saturday, March 13, 2004, in Bastrop, Texas. A lifelong Texan, James was born on November 9, 1917, in Brownsville. He proudly served his country as an Infantry Soldier in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-45, earning the Bronze Star Medal for bravery while in action in the Aleutian Islands. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1945, he returned to Brownsville and was employed by the Brownsville Navigation District at the Port of Brownsville, rising to the position of harbormaster. After a 30-year career with the District, he retired and moved to Bastrop with his beloved wife Anne in order to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Wilson Ginn; his sisters, Kathryn Hinkley, Gladys Thompson and Anna Amch; and his brothers, Robert and William Ginn. He is survived by his sister, Laura Jones of Beaufort, SC.; daughter, Anne Lassiter of Austin; sons, Edward Rhodes of Bastrop and Harrison Rhodes of Austin; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation was held at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Chapel on Monday, March 15. A memorial Mass was held on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Bastrop Ascension Catholic Church. Graveside services followed at Bastrop Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bastrop Humane Society, of which James was an ardent supporter, will be greatly appreciated. You may want to inquire the Brownsville ISD for the history of the school employee/Administrator. I had a teacher in my Elmentary school but don't recall her first name. They lived on Palm Blvd and Jefferson St in front of the former Brownsville High School. There is a book that tells the story of people living in Brownsville. Check with the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce office. They may give you some info.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Aurora Monterrubio and several brothers and sisters. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Flora Solis; three sons, Octaviano (Gloria), Leonardo Jr. (Martha L.), both of San Benito, Texas and Jaime Solis of Brownsville; two daughters, Nora E. Solis from San Benito, and Dalia Solis (Alfredo) Cavazos from St. Augustine, Fla.; his grandchildren, Gustavo E. Solis, Sofia Barrientos, Leonardo D. Solis, Aaron J. Cavazos, Valerie J. Solis, Amanda M. LAURA NELL SMITH WALLACE Laura Nell Smith Wallace, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006, at the age of 83, in Brownsville where she had been in the loving care of her devoted daughter, Connie Wallace Fischer. Laura loved children and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After her own children were raised, she returned to Columbus College, studying early childhood education, continuing to be a positive influence on the lives of children. She was an active member of the Torch Hill Road Church of Christ, in Columbus, Ga. Her favorite pastime was gardening in her extensive vegetable and flower gardens. Laura lived most of her life in Columbus but always considered herself a daughter of Scottsboro, Ala., where she was born in 1923. She was the youngest of the four daughters of Bessie and Joseph Smith. She was preceded in death by two of her sisters, Pauline Manning and Marie Wilkerson of Scottsboro, her third sister, Vivian Ardis, resides in Mobile, Ala. Laura was most proud of her three children, Beverly White of Denver, Connie Fischer of Brownsville and Keith Wallace, also of Denver. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Michael Fischer, Thomas Swain, Jamie White, Jonathan White and Stephanie Gonzalez, and her two great-granddaughters, Kelsey Young and Emma Gonzalez. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Wallace. A funeral service in celebration of Laura's life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2006, at the Scottsboro Funeral Home and will be officiated by Minister Winfred Russell. The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Scottsboro Funeral Home. His father, Roy Logan Schooley and a brother, Richard Schooley, preceded Mr. Schooley in death. Raul is survived by his loving mother, Guadalupe G. Schooley; three sons, Raul N. Schooley Jr., Richard Schooley, Roy Schooley all of Brownsville; a daughter, Gale Nolan Schooley of San Antonio; one brother, Antonio Garcia of Brownsville; three sisters, Ana B. Sifuentes of Los Fresnos, Cristy M. Rodriguez of Dallas, and Janie Duarte of Brownsville; and one grandson, Sebastian Hernandez. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mrs. Almazan was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Angel Almazan Sr.; three sons, Jose Angel Almazan Jr., Noe Almazan and Marcelino Almazan; as well as several brothers and sisters. He joined the Air Force and served four years. He lived in California for four years and moved to Duluth, Minn., in 1967. He worked in the nail room at U.S. Steel and at National Iron in Duluth. He was a loving husband and father, who did his best to take care of his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; his mother and father-in-law, Frank and Mable DeBot. DOLORES TREVINO BARRIENTES Dolores Treviño Barrientes, answered the call of our Lord on June 12, 2006, surrounded by her loved ones. She was and will forever be our most prized treasure. Dolores was married to Pedro Barrientes for 35 years raising a family of five sons and four daughters. Dolores was known for her cheerful disposition and optimism. She was blessed with good health enabling her to bear her children at home and to treat any illnesses with herbs she grew. She worked many years at United Foods and after working the night shift she walked home singing. She was a strong believer in miracles and was blessed with many during her life. She had strong convictions and her life was lived with the belief that God will take care of all things and that every event has a purpose. Dolores, or Lolita as all who knew her, was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro and her beloved daughter and friend, Rafaelita Reyna and a grandson, Carlos Reyna Jr. Even during the tremendous loss of her loved ones she stated the Lord gives and the Lord takes. She is survived by her sons, Pedro (Petra), Sergio (Ruth), Reynaldo, Jose Jorge (Chela), and Alfredo (Alicia); her daugh-ters, Rosalinda (Vito) Guerra, Irma (Scott) Sherman, and Dolores Esperanza. She is also survived by a sister, Maria Gal-indo; a brother, Adan T. Treviño; a son-in-law, Carlos Reyna Sr., and a granddaughter, Minerva Barrientes whom she raised as a daughter. She will also be missed by 23 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Her daughter, Dolores Esparza and her children, Erica and Alex were the angels on earth who cared for her during her last years. Her son-in-law, Scott was the son who showered her with love and care as he held her hand to walk and finally pushed her wheelchair. Dolores was an avid walker able to walk to Matamoros and back up to the age of 85. Although her walk got slower and her mind less clear, she continued to praise the Lord. Rhoades (married to Evel Lee in Greene County, Paragould, AR). He would have been born in 1900. The story is, Harry walked out on his family and was never heard from again. A while later, a family member was in Brownsville, TX (date unknown) and saw him. She called out his name, and he turned and looked at her. She walked up to him and started talking to him. He quickly said he wasnt who she was looking for, and walked away. At this point, we're not even sure that Rhoades was his real name. Richard graduated from St. Mary's University with a bachelor of arts in microbiology and holds three master's degrees from various universities. He worked for Southwest Research, and in 1967, he moved his family to Baton Rouge, La. and worked at the School of Public Health in Carville, La. He then returned to San Antonio in 1973, working for the Bexar County Hospital District. Richard worked for six years at the San Antonio Children's Center and then went to work with the University of Texas Health Science Center, investing 28 years. At the time of his death, he was employed as assistant vice president for South Texas Programs. He was a private pilot and flew with the Commemorative Air Force piloting the B-25 Yellow Rose. He was also a member of the Texas Medical Rangers. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo Alejandro Garcia and Josefina Lopez. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Georgia Peckman Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Audria Garcia of Long Island, N.Y.; son Steven A. SIMONE LEONA GOLDSTEIN Simone Leona Goldstein, loving wife, mother and grandmother was born in Richmond, Virginia, on October 18, 1921, and passed away suddenly in Austin on April 20, 2006. She met the love of her life, Abe Goldstein, during his World War II service in the United States Army. As a devoted wife, she supported Abe in his business and personal endeavors for more than 55 years. Simone will always be remembered for her sweet smile and gentle southern accent. She loved her Jewish community. She was a lifelong member of Congregation Agudas Achim. She was a past president of the Austin Chapter of Jewish Women International, member of sisterhood at both Congregation Beth Israel and Agudas Achim and the local chapter of Hadassah. Her children were her main vocation in her life. She served as advisor for B'nai Brith Girls during her daughters' teenage years and was honored as "Mom of the Year" by her son's youth group during the 1970's. Simone's commitment for community work followed her into her early senior years where she served as a weekly volunteer for Seton Hospital. For the past five years, Simone was an active participant in all of the senior programs offered by the Jewish Family Service at the Jewish Community Center of Austin. However, her real passion for the past 25 years was providing a wonderful legacy to her beloved grandchildren. Simone is survived by her daughter, Arlene Stein of Dallas, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Jules Frapart of Brownsville, Texas; and son and daughter-in-law, David and Candy Goldstein of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Rachel and Leah Glodstein and Janna and Adrienne Frapart. ROBERT JAMES MCGRATH, OMI 1929 - 2006 On the evening of May 30, 2006, Rev. Robert J. McGrath, OMI, passed peacefully from this life of fulfillment to the Kingdom of God, of which he had preached for 50 years as an ordained minister of the Gospel. Father Bob, as he was affectionately known, was born in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Marie Griffin McGrath on August 29, 1929. He went to San Antonio where he graduated from St. Anthony High School Seminary. Following junior college, he entered the Oblate Novitiate of Notre Dame at Richelieu, Canada. He returned to take philosophy and theology studies at DeMazenod Scholasticate (now Oblate School of Theology) where he earned the master of divinity degree. He was ordained a Catholic priest on September 8, 1955. Father Bob's first appointment as parochial vicar was to Sacred Heart Parish in McAllen, Texas, followed by assignments to Brownsville, Houston and Colorado Springs, Colorado. He served as pastor at St. Patrick's Church and Blessed Sacrament Church in Houston and Queen of Peace in Aurora, Colorado. He was director of recruitment and vocation discernment for the Missionary Oblates of the Southwest for eight years. During that time, he traveled extensively, conducting workshops and days of reflection for high school and college youth who were interested in pursuing a vocation to religious life or priestly ministry. He was a member of the Province Council of the Missionary Oblates when the decision was made in 1983 to undertake the mission which is flourishing today in Zambia, Africa. He was admired and esteemed as a caring pastor at all the churches where he served. With an engaging personality he put people at ease, and his infectious smile allowed people to feel comfortable in his presence. He was truly a people person with a ready sense of humor which brought relief to difficult situations. Before retiring to Oblate Madonna Residence, he was chaplain at Incarnate Word Convent in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is survived by a brother, Father John McGrath, OMI, of San Antonio; a sister, Marilyn McGury and nieces. Richard worked for six years at the San Antonio Children's Center and then went to work with the University of Texas Health Science Center, investing 28 years. At the time of his death, he was employed as assistant vice president for South Texas Programs. He was a private pilot and flew with the Commemorative Air Force piloting the B-25 Yellow Rose. He was also a member of the Texas Medical Rangers. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo Alejandro Garcia and Josefina Lopez. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Georgia Peckman Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Audria Garcia of Long Island, N.Y.; son Steven A. Garcia and wife Rosalinda of San Antonio, Texas; and grandchildren Kaiyana J. Garcia and Nicodemius O. Garcia. A memorial rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. GEORGE ADOLPH TEICHERT George Adolph Teichert, born June 10, 1919, in New York City passed away on June 8, 2006, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. The son of Adolph Teichert and Natalie Tietz Teichert, he graduated from the University of Florida in 1938 and returned to work for his family's business, the Brooklyn Thermometer Co., a manufacturer of precision scientific instruments. His corporate career began as a consultant for the George S. May Co., leading to industrial engineering positions for companies such as U.S. Rubber, Continental Can, Grumman Aircraft and eventually vice president of the Kentile Corp. and the Armour Co. In his retirement, he pursued a real-estate career in New Jersey and subsequently worked as a consultant traveling internationally to Ghana, Italy, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. He was a resident of Acapulco, Mexico, for 10 years before settling in Brownsville, Texas, in 1992. A former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, he was also a former member of the Art League of Brownsville. A complex man of intelligence, strong will and an exuberant love of life, he is survived by his daughter, Lynn and son-in-law James Engelland of Lake Forest, Illinois, and New York, New York; grandson Brett Engelland and Wendy Engelland of Temecula, California; and grandson Justin Engelland and Shannon Engelland of Seattle Washington; a brother, Harvey Teichert of Nesconset, New York; and his sister, Evelyn Tucker, of Boynton Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy Teichert.
