Does anyone have information on John Clement who is said to be the only Black person to have owned land in Callahan Co. I believe he and his mother were employees of Dr. J.D. Windham who settled about 1880 near Oplin. I think John Clement's mother had been a slave of the Windhams but I'm not sure. In the 1940's I remember my father who was a rural mail carried mail to Mr. Clements who would sometimes meet us at the mailbox mounted on his horse. I remember him sitting very erect on a big white horse. I'd appreciate knowing more about this interesting man.
