Maggie was blind from a young age and attended the School for the Blind in Austin, Texas. She raised her family and keep her household herself. She played the piano and organ in her church in Cedar Buff, Callahan Co., TX. The organ was a pump organ and oldest brother, Charlie Wilburn Bell pumped the church organ for her when in was a child. She past away in 20 April, 1951. I was two years old when she died, so I never got to know her. My Mother and Father told me many stories about her and she was a wonderful woman. After Crockett passed away, Maggie lived with my Mothers family when my mother was small. Maggie taught my mother to read. The only information we have on Crockett is on his death Certificate that states his father is Wief Brown and the informant is a M. R. Crooks from May, Texas. We would be more than happy to share what little I have and would be grateful if you did the same. I have been searching a long time with not much luck. Terry Bell

Posted on: Callahan County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Callahan/391 Surname: Hight, Farmer, Jameson, Leatherwood ------------------------- Hello Bette Hogue Leatherwood: Just a line or two to answer your query. My mother was Lottie White Williams, born/1881 in Pineville, LA the daughter of Martha & Freeman White. She passed away in the 1950's and in her Bible she recorded several surnames, one of them was Leatherwood and another was Jameson. I don't know what the Leatherwood name was to her family but I do remember a little about the Jameson family name. When I was about three years old, that would be in 1919, my mother would take all of her children, her sisters and her two children to a farm to pick cotton and visit for several days. This was the Jameson farm and I think it could have been in Angelton, TX. While our families were there on a visit, all would pitch in and help with the work, like picking cotton and anything that had to be done. I remember my mother would put me on the long cotton sack and I would ride on it until we reached the end of the row, then she would take me off of the sack and shake down the cotton that she had picked on that row, and move to another row, put me on the cotton sack and started picking again. This would go on all day long until they were through that night. This was a fun thing for the whole family because we didn't live on a farm and this wasn't work, it was all a play thing for the whole family. I think that this Jameson family was an Uncle or something on my mother's side of the family. Her mother was Martha A. Dunford and she came from Calhoun County Florida. She had an uncle there whose surname was Gable. We are white in color and I have been at this genealogy since my father died in 1940. There's only three of our family left. I'm the youngest at 85 and the two twin sisters Aleace Williams Mourglia and Burnice Williams Hale, at 87 years young. If you think that there could be a connection to your Jameson, or Leatherwood lines, drop me a line or two. Glad to see some of the Windham family posting. I'm interested in finding as much information as possible about John Clements who was an Africian American who worked for the Windhams in Callahan Co. I think he was born into slavery in the Windham family and was given land by the Windhams in Callahan Co. It is said he is the only Black to have owned land in Callahan Co. And I could probably add some stories to the Windham family from running around a bit with Tommy and Hal Windham back in the 1950's. John Poole Houston, TX "John B.
