Each year on the first Saturday of May the meeting is held in the old school house in Cottonwood. Minutes were read, treasure's report given and memories and storys of Cottonwood and Callahan County were told. A historical marker was discussed for the cemetery, raising money for the Methodist church's roof is needed ( the committee owns the old church)and a report was given of the start of Cottonwood and the veterans buried in the old cemetery. A great lunch was served after the meetting.

My grandfather was Jesse Payne Gray, married to Ora Lawler, and my ggrandmother was Mary Elizabeth (Molly) Lawler. Jesse's father was J. P. Gray, and it is not known for sure if he was in Callahan Co., but Jesse and his sister lived there, and they are both buried in Clyde cemetery. Jesse's sister Amanda Maydalene Gray, was married to a James B. Ellis and they lived in Callahan Co. ca 1890-1925. James B. Ellis' father was Dr. James T. Ellis. My ggrandfather was Alonzo Lawler and they were originally from AL and GA. All of the Lawler children lived in Callahan Co. at one time, between 1890 and 1930. Any information would be appreciated. One Lucille Zellers died 19Apr1980, Harris Co. Lettie Rhodes, died (06)(15)May1975, Callahan Co. DOB: 06Jun1893. A Sallie (Ann) Cooper died in Ft Worth, Tarrant Co, 22Feb1990. DOB: 20Feb1903. One Grace (F) Lewis with a DOB of 24Apr1914, died 16Jul1974, in Eastland County...Desdemona? Have you tried searching the SSDI and Texas Death Records? That's where I got this information. kdr
