Good evening to all from not-so-sunny Northern California :-))) I've just signed onto this list in hope of finding out more information on the following marriage record shown in your wonderful TexGenWeb archives: "HALSEL, David S. / JOINER, Gatzy J./19 Oct 1855/Book B /Volume 108" Now, David was probably my umpteenth great-uncle. But I don't know for sure that this is the "right" David? And I thought he had been married in Harris Co to "Catherine RICKHOW" prior to 1850 Census??? Can anyone tell me about these folks? Or where/how I could find out more? Many thanks for all you help and generosity! Carolyn Carter Johnson (mailto:rhunterg@ix.netcom.com)

Can anyone tell me if the new County Court House has been completed in Lockhart? I need to visit the County Clerks Office, but the last time I was there (a couple of months ago) it was impossible to look up anything because all the records were stored in various warehouses etc, all over Lockhart. They told me that it would probably be around October before their new Offices were open and the records were brought back and filed. Evidently the phone # I have is no good. Thanks, Bill Sanders Spring, Texas bsand10@earthlink.net Genealogists live in the past lane
They are still in the restoration stage. The records, etc., are located out on Hwy 20, near the jail, etc. You can get many Caldwell Co. records on microfilm, interlibrary loan; also you would be wise to visit Luling Library, where the C.C. Gen. & Hist. Society maintains a Research Center. OPen library hours, M,W,F 10-5; TU-TH noon to 8 pm. Greetings to all, If you had ancestors who ever lived in Pike Co., AL, we hope you will submit information about them to the Pike Co. Heritage book project. There is no cost to submit information about your ancestors for inclusion in this book. This is the biggest genealogy project Pike Co., AL has ever undertaken, under Heritage Publishing Company, & we know that many, many families from Pike County moved to Texas last century. Some left signs in their yards saying "GTT" & all their neighbors knew they had "Gone to Texas." For further information about this project, please e-mail me at orion@p-c-net.net. If you had ancestors in Pike Co., AL, please let them be included in this book! If you have infor- mation but don't want to write it yourself, please let us know & someone can do the writing for you. Thank you very much. -- Dorothy Ann Folmar Pike Co., AL
I am researching my maternal ancestors and attempting to obtain any information regarding the LANEY families that resided in Lockhart, Texas. Specifically I am attempting to locate information on my grandfather, Clarence E. LANEY (b: 1876) in Lockhart. He married Elfrieda Hampe (b:1880) in 1811 in Lockhart. Clarence LANEY worked as a printer or reported for the Lockhart Register during the early 1900's. Clarence was the son of John W. LANEY (b:1813 in Simpson County, KY). Clarence and Elfrieda LANEY gave birth to only one known child, Margaret LANEY (b, Dec 16, 1914) in Lockhart. Margaret was my mother. John W. LANEY was my g-grandfather. He moved to Lockhart after 1860, and lived a short time with his brother Joseph LANEY also a resident of Lockhart since before 1850. John LANEY, who was the Postmaster for Lockhart from 1873 to 1885, married Rebecca (last name unknown) around 1873. They had three children: 1. Mattie b:1874 2. Clarence, b: Sept 15, 1876 3.. Arthur James, b: 1879 (also found in the census as James Arthur) As you can see I have very little information to go on. Since the Caldwell County Court House is being remodeled, and I am told that records will probably not be available for another 6 months, that avenue of information is lost to me at this time. All of the information that I have has come for the census reports, the Library in Lulling, and the Plum Creek Almanac. I would deeply appreciate any information regarding the LANEY's that anyone might wish to share with me. Thank you, Bill Sanders Spring, Texas bsand@texas.net
