For some time, I have been searching for the missing son of Tolbert F. Cole's older brother, Thomas. Thomas pre-deceased their mother (1874) and court records showed that his children were thought to be living in LA in the 1880s. Only his daughter Clara was mentioned by name. I found a good candidate for Thomas living in Natchidoches, LA in 1860 -- wife Ellen, son William (born about 1856) and daughters Mary & Clara. I have not been able to determine William's middle name, but from what I've learned of the naming patterns in this family I think it highly likely that he could have been listed on later census records using his middle name. In 1870, I found a possible match for Clara enumerated in the household of W. P. and Caroline Allen in St. Mary, LA. If she was really Thomas' daughter, the family had split up. One theory is that his wife died, their children went to live with her family, and Thomas' family lost touch with them after his death. A lot of conjecture. No proof. Does any of this sound familiar?
