Martha Ann Newton b. 19 June 1831 St. Clair, Alabama d. 16 Dec 1916 Burnet, Burnet County, Texas (buried Bear Creek, Bertram) On the 1860 to 1910 census she is shown living with her mother and father in Precinct 3, Burnet, Texas and the 1850 has her in District 2, Tippah, Mississippi. My great aunt Lena May Norred (1892=1969) writes that she was single and after her father's death she lived with her sister, Elizabeth Catherine Newton Nevitt (1836-1911) and husband till their deaths. She also writes that little is known of her early life and education. She is buried in Bear Creek. Not much of a match so far. The Newton's came to Burnet county abt 1855 first land deed 1857. My linage is via my g grandmother Nellie May Newton (Norred, Burns-1869-1957) who was the daughter of John Calvin (1824-1884) & Mary Josephine Murphy Newton (1838-1930) and brother of Martha Ann Newton. John Calvin Newton's land was about 5 miles North of Bertram, Texas and next to the Arnett's. By the way my gg grandfather was James Oliver Norred (1832-1908) who was the stepson of Cullen Curlee Arnett (1812-1865). My great grandfather George Cullen Norred (1866-1897) married Nellie May Newton 16 Sept 1891. After his death in 1897 she married Baxter Euan Burns. The Norred's and Coon's (James Oliver married Amanda Margaret Coon, 1842-1929) lived in Hairston Creek at the time. There is another possibility though. John Calvin's older brother, James Donald Newton (1822-1884) had a farm - ranch 7 miles North of Elgin, Bastrop County, Texas. He married Mary Emmaline Stokes and they had 10 children, 3 sons and seven daughters. None of the children or age seems to match though. I have looked through all issues of Samuel Martin Newton and nothing really matches but, if anything interest you let me know and I can send you an invite to my tree. My great aunt Lena did quite a bit of research on the Newton's as did her mother Nellie May Newton and grandmother, Mary. I have most of her notes - records and am starting to get it all in my tree. I just started my own last year and have been working on my mother on her account with her for several years. I am transferring everything little by little to my tree.
