If I didn't have the marriage license for 10 May 1867 that specifically names her "Mrs" I would think we were on to something. There is no mistaking the Mrs for Miss. Surely the preacher wouldn't have made a mistaken assumption. Could she have been married young, gone back to her maiden name? Bertram is not that far as the crow flies from Florence in Williamson County where the McDonald's owned land. There were some Newtons that owned 2 lots in Florence as well, a Mattie and John W, I believe, but there is no record of them living there and this would've been about 1876 when husband J W gave the lots to his wife Mattie to repay her for spending her inheritance. I'll have to go back and look at that deed as it mentioned who she inherited from. Her age is about right, but there was a census record that indicated she was born in Arkansas. Our Martha would've been with the McDonald's from 1867 until about 1874 when Thomas died and from that! point we have nothing on her or much of the rest of the McDonald's. Don't know whether she went back to her family or just what. Let me know what you think Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
