I have the photo of the headstone, a couple of newspaper articles and maybe an odd or end. The inscription itself reads: "Elizebeth Simpson was borne April the 10 1834 and dide September the 24 1864 An remember as yo ar pasing by Yo must dy as well as I" I suspect that it is the "spooky" tone of the insciption which has lead Elizabeth to be branded as a "witch", but similar insciptions is not that uncommon and are found in many other locations. The hand carved nature of the inscription might also lend to the "witch" theory. But, based on some research with help from several folks, I can determine that, contrary to my original theory, Elizabeth Simpson was NOT an escaping slave (in fact, she was white), she was NOT hung for horse thievery or witchcraft (this may have started because of the hanging tree just outside the Bittick Cemetery), and she probably was not a Unionist. I will email you those items here shortly if I can access your email, but please confirm that you (or anyone else so interested) would like to receive this stuff.
