Having done the same thing for years myself - it really can be hit or miss when looking for specific people during that period of Texas History. So much of the history was passed along orally among "old-timers," that sadly - much of it was lost because it wasn't recorded anywhere. I'd suggest you check out the Frontier Times archive. It can be a tedious endeavor, but now they've installed a search utility on their website streamlining the process somewhat. I ran a search for the name "Clark" and it returned 10 pages containing 187 hits. Tedious, but better than nothing. Good Luck, and Happy Hunting!
