Though the Sanford surname doesn't ring a bell, at least in the context of this conversation, the Wadkin name does and the Lafayette Wadkin especially. I don't know from where yet, but I do remember some vague connection of a Lafayette Wadkin in some of my Hibler research. My grandmother, Anne Alice Hibler Norred (daughter of Felix) saved a lot of pictures and letters, perhaps it might be there. My brother has our copy of the Hibler book and I sent him an email with the facts of this conversation and we shall see if there is mention in Novella's book. I also carbon copied the information in the same email to my cousin who is in possession of my grandmothers letters. So now comes the old waiting game we all know so well Sherron, but I will post back with any progress of interest. More to follow. Here is a Watkins - Hibler connection that I have in my records. We start out with David Watkins. Old Dave was born in Washington Co., Arkansas, in 1820. He was the son of Isaac Watkins of Virginia. Dave was married to Mrs. Mary Manervia (Clark) Sexton on November 9, 1864 in Williamson Co., Texas. Mary M. had been first married to James Robert Sexton, Sr. on June 22, l858, in Lampasas Co. James and Mary had two children that lived to adulthood. These children were Zelphia Jane Sexton and James Robert Sexton, Jr. James Robert Sexton, Sr. died during the Civil War and was buried somewhere in Lousiana. His death date was reported to be October 4, 1863. It is not known if he was killed in battle or died of some disease. Stick with me a little longer here! James Robert Sexton, Jr. was later married to Louvica Ann Loving in San Saba Co. Their first two children were Mary Louella Mildred Sexton and Annie Pearl Sexton. Both of these daughters married into the Hibler family. Mary Louella married Hunter Felix Hibler and Annie Pearl married Benjamin Warden Hibler. Benjamin and Hunter were brothers and were sons of Felix Augustus Hibler and Lucy Culton Warden. (Do not be confused by listings of other wives for James R. Sexton, Jr. He was married 4 times, possibly 5). David Watkins died in Burnet Co. on July 28, 1904, and is buried in the Oatmeal Cemetery. Mary Manervia (Clark) Sexton-Watkins died in Dripping Springs, Hays Co., on Feb. 8, 1931, and is buried in the Pursley Cemetery, Hays Co., Tex. This is about all I have on this connection. I hope it helps. (I did not find a Joseph Watkins/Wadkins). Keith Reed Arlington, Tx. You posted in the McGill building thread about Joe, and your leaning towards a Hibler relation which goes with my line of thinking. It's one of those things you run across while researching one thing and find something else interesting along the way (we ADHD folks call them bunnies). I tend to save and store these items within the context they best fit and a hint like dates, names, places, or events will often jog my memory as to where I put it. Lets just say Wadkins or Watkins alone perhaps might not have caught my eye, but the Hibler surname thrown in along with the grandsons name being Lafayette has me digging. I lean towards the spelling of the name as "Wadkins" and I think it was actually "Wadkin" from what I remember. Perhaps this will help, but more detail is needed, and please post here on the message boa! rds because they are a wonderful collaborative research tool. Thanks!
