    3. Here is a connection between the Hiblers and the Watkins. Hollet Watkins had a brother named David Watkins. David married Mary Manerva (Sexton) Clark. (She was first married to James Sexton, Sr. who was killed in the Civil War.) James Sexton, Sr. and Mary Menerva had a son named James Robert Sexton, Jr. who was married at least four times and had daughters named Mary Louella Sexton and Annie Pearl Sexton. These girls married Hunter Felix Hibler and Benjamin Warden Hibler. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <TXBURNET-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 24, 2012 1:52 PM Subject: Re: [TXBURNET] Conner/ Coggins/Harris/Wadkins InFrom Llano toBertram Tx > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: AmzyHibler > Surnames: Hibler > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.burnet/2788.1.1.2/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > HI, > > Would you happen to know where I could get a copy of the picture of the > Texas Rangers with Felix who is my GG Grandfather. > > Thanks > > I can also be reached at my e-mail: aehibler@chevron.com > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: james_norred Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.burnet/2788.1.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Interesting and I have had a connection in my mind for sometime now I wanted to explore. This would be a connection back to the Norred's. OK, here we go, and lets do a little background first to set the stage so to speak. One of my gg grandfather, James Oliver Norred, son's was Edward Paskel Norred (1884 1933), in fact the last of his and Margaret Amanda Coon Norred's 11 children. Edward married Georgia Ann Mitcheltree (1884 1973) and one of their daughters, Clara Kate Norred (1913 19890) married a Vernon Watkins (1907 1984). Now Both Vernon and Kate were born in Burnet County, Kate in Burnet (perhaps on the family farm on Hairston Creek) and Vernon I have as Lake Victor. I have their marriage in Burnet 29 Nov 1933. I show them living in Austin 1935 and there after in Lockhart, Caldwell County, Texas where they are buried. I don't have much research on this particular branch of my family as yet, but I do have a good connection, my great uncle Gerald Watkins, one of their issues. I haven't contacted Gerald in some months, but will do so with this information as soon as I have time and see what he has. This might be where I remember the name "Lafayette" from in the first place, and I will explain farther in a moment. First here is what I do have, and you will see where this might apply. As mentioned I have Vernon as born in Lake Victor, Burnet County in 1907 and his parents were John Calvin Watkins (1858 1938) who married Nancy Harriett Nicks (1866 1943) 14 Sept 1882. I show John to be born 13 Feb 1858 Newton, Missouri, and Nancy 27 July 1866 in Burnet County. They are both buried in Burnet County, Texas. John Calvin's father was (as per my sketchy records mind you) was Hollett (Hollis) Watkins (1828 1860), and he was born Arkansas City, Desha Co, Arkansas. His death is shown to be 28 May 1860 in Mantua, Collin Co, TX. He married Mary Jane Marcum (1834 1895) in McDonald, Missouri. Her death is shown as 18 Jul 1895 in Lake Victor, Burnet County, Texas. I show Hollett's father as Issac (or Isaac) Watkins (1784 1827) and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His death and burial are shown to be in Washington, Arkansas. He married Margaret Dun (1796 1870) and born in Georgia. She died in Collin County, Texas but was buried with Issac in Arkansas. Now these people seem to be prominent in Burnet and Bertram areas of Burnet county within your time frame, and something tells me they perhaps might be the same ones, as mentioned my research is area has been limited thus far. He is what interest me, first the name "Lafayette" would indicate a French heritage, most likely Southern Louisiana in our case. I looked through all of the issues I have (and there are not many mind you) and see no names that would indicate one of the issues marring into a family of French heritage, but that doesn't mean this did not happen. As mentioned that name just rings a bell. Howdy Amzy, didn't want you to think I was ignoring you, but wanted to get the above "possibility out of the way first. Amzy and I are cousins by the way and Felix was also my great grandfather by my grandmother, Annie Alice Hibler. As to the Hibler connection, I still have nothing new, and if Amzy doesn't have a connection either then we are still at an impasse on that link. Something about the Watkins and Hibler's seem to keep popping up, but at the moment I will refer to Amzy or my brother on this one as they have the book. As usual more research is needed, but that is what we lonely genealogist do right? As to a long shot tie in, Clara Kate Norred, Vernon Watkins wife had a brother named Ted La Rue Norred. Now I find the spelling "La Rue" most often and in Cajun French is basically "The Red" in most dialects. I was married to two Cajun women and my second wife had a cousin who went by La Rue. His full name was Virgil La Rue Gilbeaux. It is possible there were more than one Norred Watkins connection I seem to remember. This of course will require more research, but we must remember that most the issues are named for parents and grandparents. If what I posted on my Watkins linage seems to match with yours then I would suggest looking farther into what I have and see if it leads to what your looking for. It does appear we are all connected so please post back with any progress as I would really like to know for my tree. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Both died in Austin, Travis County per online death certificates https://familysearch.org/ They're found 1910 Travis-Precinct 2-District 0059-Image 75 and 1920 Burnet-Bertram-District 22-Image 2. Eva must have married 1920-1926 'cause son William Henry Goss born 1 Aug 1927 in Travis County? That birth certificate online at family search as is Edith Josephine Goss' in Burnet County. There are also records for Rosalie McNeill Goss in Brazos County and Nehemik Hoten Goss in Bastrop County without actual certificates. Per data found on Edith Josephine's certificate, her father born in Hempstead, Waller County. The marriage could have been performed in his hometown or any point between the counties. http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/cclerks.shtml#M I'd make some calls first. Author: RondinaM Surnames: Raven Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.burnet/2789.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Check for online county resources first. Both Travis and Williamson counties have some documents posted. Williamson Co. also has a private site that I have used off and and on for years called ThreeLeggedWillie. Many records for both counties can be found on Family History Library microfilm and ordered through your Family History Center. I'm unfamiliar with Alaska, but I suspect there are some centers there. If members of this family died in Texas after 1902, the Texas death certificates are online at familysearch.org and may help you identify ancestors. Travis Co. was particularly good at filing certificates when the requirement first became law in 1903. (It took 33 years for all counties to comply.) Once you have the correct Raven family, you can also view the county tax records for free on familysearch.org. When all else is exhausted, don't forget that a return address and postage stamp from Alaska may get you some help from a county clerk. You need to look at both Travis Co. and Williamson Co. Hugo Raven and his wife are buried in Old Round Rock Cemetery. (Right inside the gate nearest the Bass grave marker.) There were several Austin marriages that occurred in Austin that could have produced your Raven. Herman L. Raven m. 1) Margaret A. E. Hamilton 3 Feb 1859 (Bk 1:232) and 2) Miss Henrietta S. Wood 10 Aug 1891 (Bk 7:460); Geo. Raven m. Mary Leverett 26 Nov 1885 (Bk 6: 326); Leslie Raven m. Marie Mathis 22 Jan 1894 (Bk 8: 336). I would look at Williamson Co. first. The family came from Baveria/Germany and there are several trees that will help you get your research on the Raven line started. I have not completed work on this line as it is an allied family. Be sure to look for articles in the Burnet paper and the Bertram paper also, if they lived near! the county line. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: tunnelm1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.burnet/1612.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Some have shown Willis B. Davidson as being a descendant of the "old" William Davidson who was shown as age 95 on the 1850 Limestone Co., VA census (and as being from NC). That "old" William Davidson was member of DNA "Family 3" at www.davidsongenes.org, per a living male Davidson DNA donor who is a descendant of the later William Davidson in that family who married a Miss Lewis. I SUSPECT that this is PROBABLY not correct (but certainly no proof). I believe that Willis B. Davidson was instead PROBABLY a son of the younger William Davidson (age 61) who on that same Limestone census in 1850, and who was born in VA. That William Davidson who was age 61 in 1850 MIGHT very well have been a member of the unrelated DNA "Family 10" from VA. Note: Both of the "old" William Davidsons (age 95 in 1850) and the younger William Davidson (age 61 in 1850) were supposedly married to women named Nancy. The "old" William Davidson was supposedly married to a Nancy Albright (though his wife in Limestone Co., AL in 1850 was a later wife), while the younger William Davidson (age 61 in 1850) from VA is shown on that 1850 Limestone Co., AL census as being married to a Nancy (whose maiden name is not known). That other William Davidson (age 60 in 1860) who was on the census in Burnet Co., TX in 1860....and who was shown as a "gentleman" from VA....MIGHT have also been a member of DNA "Family 10." I see no evidence that the "old" William Davidson (age 95 in 1850, and from NC) of DNA "Family 3" was ever in VA....but no proof. If you know of a living male Davidson who is out of Willis B. Davidson, he should be encouraged to take the DNA test via the "Join Now..." tab/link at www.davidsongenes.org. Ditto anyone who is out of the above-mentioned "gentleman" William Davidson from VA, and/or out of the John R. Davidson who married a Sarah Ballard (they were in Limestone Co., AL in 1850 and then in Burnet Co., TX in 1860). By the way, the James Davidson who married a Miss Lewis and a Miss Parrish (and who was also in Limestone Co., AL and then in Burnet Co., TX) apparently WAS a member of DNA "Family 3" (and hence, a part of the same Davidson family as the "old" William Davidson). I have found that it is quite common to have two or more unrelated Davidson/Davison/Davisson families in the same area at the same time. Thanks.
