Author: KarylonRussell44 Surnames: Breazeale, Luce, Casner, Margraves Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.burnet/2765.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, the original Breazeale family land was in Llano County in the vicinity of Packsaddle Mountain/Honey Creek, known in its earliest days as Honey Creek Cove. The area is referred to as The Cove Precinct on the 1870 Census for Llano Co. Franklin Breazeale owned one of the first STORES in Llano Co., situated near present day Honey Creek Cem. off Hwy. 71, CR 308, I believe is the number. He was also captain of one of the area's Frontier Regiments during the Civil War. Family came to Texas with their widowed mother, Elizabeth (Betsy) Margrave/s, after death of the family father, a laywer in Roane Co. TN (J. Wm. McNairy Breazeale) They can be found living in Fayette Co. TX on census of 1850. When Llano Co. first opened up for white settlement in the mid 1850's, she came there with her sons and unmarried daughters. One of the girls married a man from a neighboring family, D. L. Luce, and by 1870, Elizabeth and some of her family had retreated back to safer environs in the town of Burnet, where she and some of her children lived out the rest of their lives. She and one son buried Old Burnet City Cem., others buried in Odd Fellows. LUM was shot and killed in the early 1870's following an incident in an area saloon. His land was located on the Preusch survey, which fronts the Llano River, not far from current Kingsland slab area, where a community that came known as GAINESVILLE was well established by 1875, according to a mining map of Llano Co. in the State Archives. It is said that Lum owned the saloon where he was shot, along with at least one other man, Elihu E. Casner, an innocent bystander. Casner is buried at Honey Creek, although HIS HOME was closer to Long Mountain. I think Lum is buried at Hoover Valley, but as near as I can determine, his grave, wherever it is, IS NOT MARKED. As a Llano Co. historian, I am interested in determining for sure if LUM was killed at the saloon at Gainesville, OR if he was killed at Franklin's establishment at Honey Creek. Most of what has been written seems to think it was at Franklin's place, but in recent years, I am not so convinced. Hoping the family can clear this issue up. The ONLY Breazeale that remained in Llano Co. was CLINTON, who became a prominent business man in the town of Llano. His primary income was saloon proprietor, and there is hardly a BLOCK in the town of Llano that he did not at one time own at least ONE or more saloons. He was also an alderman for the town's first city council, which is preserved by photo. He and many in his family are buried in the city cemetery in Llano. I AM very interested in learning more about Franklin and his family, and their whereabouts, etc. AFTER leaving Llano Co. You can contact me personally at krussell@tstar.net. Karylon A. From Burnet County History Vol II -- page 31, 32, 33 "Breazeale Family" mentions Honey Creek Cove ("the Cove") at foot of Packsaddle Mountain. Gives genealogy of Columbus "Lum" Breazeale. 3. Book entitled "My Memories, Life As It Was Then and As It is Now" by Morris Breazeale, privately published in 1987. Gives some family History, pg 1-30 and 238-282. No info available on Jim Breazeale.
