    1. [TXBURLES] REED/GOWEN MURDER
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: REED/GOWEN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EhB.2ACE/1125 Message Board Post: Desperately Need Help: I have two stories of ancestors: One is reported to have been published in Wayne Co.,Mo. newspaper as follows: THOMAS H. REED was shot in TX., on his death bed, August 6, 1874 her admitted to having been the leader of the gang that robbed the Iron Mountian train at Gads Hill in Wayne Co., Mo., thus absolving the Jesse James gang of the blame. This article was published about August or Sept. 1874. (The elder family members said he died in Summerville, Tx. The other family legend is as follows: (two different versions) ALBERT D. GOWEN (Gowan, Gowin) was returning from TX., where he was an heir to an estate. He was ambushed and killed having left a widow Nancy (nee Reed) and several small children back in Wayne Co.,Mo. The second version is as follows: ALBERT D. GOWEN went to the Panhandle of TX. to receive his portion of an estate, upon his return, he was ambushed and killed, his wife Nancy (nee Reed) packed up their children and returned to Mo. I have no idea where in Tx. either of these accounts may have occured, however, the time frame is 1863-1870. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated after years of trying to locate any leads I'm drained! Thanking anyone in advance even for a prayer, Karlyn May
