Adina is located northwest of Lexington on FM 696 (toward Elgin). Turn right on CR 309. Follow the signs, a several 90 degree turns. The church is on your right. Adina Cemetery has several veteran graves and recently was the cemetery of choice of the Craddock Family who were required to relocate their family cemetery off private land which was leased to Alcoa for mining purposes. William B. Craddock was gunned down by outlaws in 1975 following his testimony against their cattle rustling activities in Bastrop County. William was shot in the back on his way home. The oxen drawn wagon pulled into the Craddock yard hours over due. The oxen had brought William's dead body home. The public is invited to the historical marker dedication. Surnames: Wadford, Watford, Hubbard, Haven, Havin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EhB.2ACE/1120 Message Board Post: I am desperately looking for information regarding my great grandfather, William Henry W(h)adford. My g-grandfather was supposedly born in Alabama on September 15th during the Civil War years and the tale told is that his family may have originally come from the Carolinas to perhaps Newton, Dale County, Alabama, where he may have been born. He was orphaned at a young age when his family may have died in a "plague" possibly on a river(house)boat and the story has it he was discovered alone after a couple of days. He possibly was sent to live with an uncle in Florida, but ran away with cousins when he was a young boy and they ended in Texas with another supposed uncle. I am able to trace him from 1885, Rains County, Texas to Delta County, Colorado where he is buried. The cousins may have been his mothers' family. The first record I can find of him is his marriage to Mary E. Havens on October 25, 1885 in Rains County, Texas where he had worked building Sulpher Springs Road. They had a son, William Henry Whadford Jr. born Oct. 15, 1886 in Sulpher Springs, Hopkins County, Texas and Mary soon died afterwards. My g-grandfather then married Sminthie Ellen Matlock (b. Sept. 4, 1874 Marlin, Falls County, Texas) on Jan. 14, 1889 at Cureo, Dewitt County, Texas. They had six children: Leona Josephine (f) b. Mar. 20, 1890 at Cuero, Dewitt County Bonnie Monroe (m) b. Jan. 15, 1892 at Edna, Jackson County Jessie Winnie (f) b. Sept. 26, 1893 at Edna, Jackson County Maude Belle (f) b. Jun. 26, 1895 at Edna, Jackson County Lillie Mae (f) b. Mar. 5, 1898 at Edna, Jackson County Charles Henry Claude (m) b. Jan. 9, 1902 at Paonia, Delta County, Colorado The found censuses of him are: The 1900 census of Montgomery County, Texas lists: William Henry Whadford, w, m, born-Sept, year-1865 age last birthday is 30 or 39 and he is a logger (possibly in the San Jacinto Range) and his unknown parents were born in Alabama. The census date is June 4th, 1900. The 1910 Delta County, Colorado census lists: William H. Whadford, m, w, age 47 (birthyear? 1863?) and as a survivor (dependent?) of the Civil War and that his father was born in Alabama and his mother was born in Florida. The census date is April 18th, 1910. The 1920 Delta County, Colorado census lists: William H. Whadford, m, w, age 56 (birthyear? 1864) and both his parents were born in North Carolina. The census date is Jan. 24th, 1920. The 1930 Delta County, Colorado census lists: William H. Wadford, m, w, age 66 (birthyear? 1864) and his father was born in South Carolina and his mother was born in Alabama. The census date is April 10th, 1930. Recently, I finally found a census listing a Willie Wadford approximately the same age as my g-grandfather would have been and I'm hoping someone may be able to provide the crack in my brick wall. It is the 1870 census of Shelby County, Hillsboro, P.O., Alabama, page 423. I cannot clearly make out Ms. Wadford's first name and I'm hoping it is recognized. The listings is: Hubbard, James D. age 24, M, W, Farmer b. Alabama. Mollie, age 20, F, W, Keeping house, b. Alabama. Walter R. or B., age 1 , M, W, At Home, b. Alabama. Wadford, ? (possibly Annie or (N)Annie), age 25, F, W, At Home, b. Alabama. Wadford, Willie, age 4, M, W, At Home, b. Alabama. I'm assuming Ms. Wadford is a sister to either James D. or Mollie, but I have found no proof. If you have any information regarding the Wad-Watfords, Havens-ins, Hubbards or recognize this story, please let me know. I would also appreciate any ideas or other contacts. Thank you! Nancy L. Compton
I am seeking information on the SETTLEMEYER line. The earliest place in which I have found them is Burleson County. From there some of the descendants went to Uvalde County while others went "West." My info is as follows: Charley SETTLEMEYER m. Anna HOYEK/HOYACK 13 May 1883 in Burleson County. Their children were: Joseph W. (1884-1965): married Emma CALVIN Charley (b. 1886): may have married and divorced Alice (or Sophie?) (b. 1888) Minnie (b. 1890) Alfred H. (b. 1892) Charley died sometime before 1894, after which Anna married Henry M. NEWCOMB (1861-1911). Minnie & Sophie are listed in the "Index to Probate Minutes 1890-1911," but I have no further information on this. Charley is likely linked to one Joseph SETTLEMEYER (b. abt. 1861) who appears in the 1930 Burleson County Census at age 69 years. Residing with Joseph were his wife Anna (b. abt. 1863) and Frank Kubecka, age 90 years, "father-in-law." Some of the families linked by marriage to Settlemeyer descendants are WILLIAMS, WOOTEN, SHANE, KOCH, McREYNOLDS, and HIGGINS. Would love to share information with anyone whose tree links to this line. Specifically Moses Hughes. He lived near Mary Hughes formerly Mary or Polly Overby and her children one of whom was born a Hughes. The daughter's name was Lydia Jane Hughes - she married one of the Flippen boys - A.J Flippen. I am trying to find the name of Mary's spouse. Can't find a marriage record but have several documents listing her as a Hughes and she is Hughes on the 1850 census. There is a Moses Hughes in the 1830 census of Jefferson County AL, where she previously lived also. Could be the same Moses Hughes, the ages match up. Thanks for any info. Shelley Andrews

A follow up newspaper thank-you was also found that stated that within a 5 month period after his death, Josef also lost his sister, sister-in-law and 3 nieces /nephews thanks for your response. In the course of researching my East Texas roots, I've discovered a link to Burleson County. My 2nd-great grandfather George D. Martin [b. abt. 1845 in AL] came to Texas and was living as a hired hand on a farm with William and Sarah Foster. George married Viola E. Richardson on 3 Sept 1873. Viola was born in Mississippi in about 1850. I would like to know more about any other Richardsons living in Burleson County at that time. By 1880, the couple was living in Lee County [E.D. 94] and had 3 children: Loyd [age 5], Porter [age 3] and a 3-month old infant [my great grandfather]. Not sure how long the family lived in Lee County, but by 1900 they were in Rusk,Cherokee Co. renting a farm. By 1910 the family owned the farm.
