What I understand you may be able to reach John Beckling Jr. officiating, with any burial information there in Brownwood, cemetery. I don't have the number but I'm very sure I can find out that information through my Aunt that lives in Brownwood. I have heard of the Name McCain before through my mother and her brothers. Wonder if there is a connection here. How fun that would be. e-mail me for anything you may need. Sincerely Sherry Richardson

Not living there long at all, I moved away before I turned one. I have not been there since. My grandfather was Levie Old. He lived in Brownwood and was a lawyer back in the 70's and passed away in 1981. There is supposed to be a park or camping site named after me. As many years have unfolded since then, I am not sure if it still exists. Can anyone verify this? I'm also seeking any of the 'Old' family that lives in Brownwood or its surroundings. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you.

Dot Brown aka Dorothy Jean Brown died in 1975 and was burried Dec. 10, 1975 at 3:00 p.m. at South Heights Cemetery in Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma. She was my grandaunt. Her brother Samuel Wayne Brown was my mother's father and died July 26, 1990 at the age of 81 years, 10 months, 1 week and 2 days. Dorothy Jean Brown's parents were Samuel William Brown, jr. and Mattie May Payne-Brown. Dot also had a sister, Juanita Brown-Tiger who died March 1, 1998 at the age of 91; Jewel Brown-Caton who died in Mathis, Texas and burried in Oklahoma. I've been searching for almost 4 years trying to find information on my grandfather, Samuel Wayne Brown, for my mom who just turned 80 on March 16, 2004. The last letter we received from him was Jan. 26, 1973 when he told mom he was in a VA Hospital in Houston, Texas waiting for kidney transplants. A libruarian in Mathis, Texas was nice enough to send me his obit from the newspaper archieves. I'd appreciate any info you would have for my grandfather as we never knew who Samuel Wayne Brown married after mom was born and her mother, Mary Wadsworth died from Septsemia poisoning after the birth of my mother. I know Samuel Wayne Brown had 4 more children born 26 years after mom (3/16/1924): 1. Wayne Brown born March 8, 1950 and was living in Giddings, Texas in 1990. 2. Mary Alice Brown born in 1954 was known as Mary Alice Brown-Wilkerson of Highlands in 1990. 3. Penny Sue Brown born in 1956 but she wasn't mentioned in her father's obit, could be dead. 4. Patricia Jean Brown born in 1961 and now known as Patricia Jean Brown-Stapp of Corpus Christi, Texas as of 1990. I've been trying to find mom's 1/2 siblings to see if their father ever told them about my mother, their 1/2 sister. Would love to hear from you. You can email me at BlondiNativeAme3@Netscape.net I'm going to try looking up Samuel Wayne Brown's children that are mentioned in his obit at Verizon Super pages to see if they might still be alive so I can contact them. Please feel free to email me anytime. Annmarie

You must be referring to Dot Brown and her Dad who owned a nice restaurant and some real estate cabins in Mathis TX back in the '50-'60s. Our family stayed at the restaurant during a hurricane at one time as I recall. They were really nice people. I'll always remember her menu because it said "Blessed are they who run around in circles, for they shall be known as Dots!" So cute. I'll see if I can find out any information about their departure from Mathis. Ann

The closest cemetery to Rising Star, in Brown County, is about five miles, which is Wolf Valley Cemetery. No Arledge burials are listed there. Have you posted in Eastland County or Comanche County which is three miles from Rising Star?

Ü My gg grandma Zepora was born on July 24, 1898 to parents Lena Rollett & Nathaniel Brown (according to her birth certificate) I know that her parents were born or lived in Oklahoma, I'm just not sure where. I cannot find any information on the two of them. Anyway, Zepora had 7 children born in Marshall, TX. I do recall her telling me when I was a little girl that there is a lot of Native American blood in the family. I think she told me at one time, that it is Cherokee. She always had this long straight black beautiful hair which she kept in a bun on her head. She was married to a Brown whom she had her first child with Born Abena Brown-Wynn.(she was also born Brown there is talk in the family that she married her cousin, or other distant relative) She then later met, and married George Everett and they had 6 children Beatrice Manson, Addie (Bernice Brazil), Curtis Everett, Tellis "Ted" Everett, G! eorge Everett and Lee Everett. My g-uncle Curtis went on to play in the Negro Leagues with the Kansas City Monarchs. The only thing I really know about the Browns is that they are related to the Hollands. According to family talk, The Hollands were the slave masters, and the Browns were the slaves. We own the Plantation I believe in Carthridge, TX where we have theHolland-Brown reunion every year. I hear it's pretty big, and everyone I know in California who has family out that way knows about it. As fas as the Strickland name, this is my father's name. I am not married yet. His family according to my knowledge was born out in Oklahoma too. (I think) I really don't know about that side of the family. Let me know if anything here helps!! Hope to hear from you soon.. take care Ü
