That's okay, I live in Cleburne about an hour drive. I didn't even know that they had the index there. I have several that have died here in Texas but just don't know where at. This will help me a lot. The records were online, but are temporary off. Here is the address for the future. Texas Department of Health, BUREAU OF VITAL STATISTICS - GENERAL AND SUMMARY BIRTH INDEXES http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/bvs/registra/birthidx/birthidx.htm Death records were there also. Margie, I haven't seen it on the net yet--I used it at the Dallas Public Library. I didn't even know there was such a thing until Mr. Bockstruck saw my sad face, took pity on me and showed me my elusive ancestor complete with name of wife, cause of death and location of burial. I'm not sure how far back the index goes--and some records are pretty bare, but I've sure benefitted from it. I don't know whether the Dallas Library has folks who will do lookups--some of the smaller libraries can borrow resources, though, so you may be able to get it closer to you with the help of your library. I'm planning a trip to the library in Dallas at the end of December. I know that's a long time to wait, but I could look something up for you then if you haven't been able to get your hands on it. Posted on: Brown County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Brown/676 Surname: ------------------------- This is just a notice that Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Holder, Brown Co., TX, has a well-attended Decoration each Mother's Day. There is a non-denomenational church service at 10:00 a.m. followed by a potluck dinner on the grounds. If you have relatives buried there, there is a very good chance someone will be in attendance who can add info for you -- and a good chance you will have relatives in attendance. Everyone is welcome to share in some wonderful fellowship and fantastic food.
Hi Tammy, This is a little off the subject and may be something you already know, but the Handbook of Texas mentions Greenleaf Fisk a bunch. Here is a link to The New Handbook of Texas Online. http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/dataware/cgi-bin/web_evaluate?dataset=TSHA&dbs=TS HA&shs_action=&multi=1&num_docs=50&query=greenleaf+fisk Maybe one of the articles will lead you to the answer about William A.--and have you checked the "Index of Texas Deaths before 1940"? I've found several tidbits there on ancestors that eluded me. Happy Hunting! Dear Michael Thomas: If you are kin to the two Gabbert sisters, Rebecca Jane, and Mary Sharlotte, that married two of the Jones brothers, William Harvey Jones, and James Columbus "Uncle Jim"Jones. Then you and I are very much kin. My great Aunt Flossie Jane Jones Thomas Boyd, lived in and around the May, Holder communities for most of her life. She was in her 90's when she died in 1998. She was a daughter of William Harvey Jones. She married Otis Dewey Thomas; sometime after his death, she married George Boyd. Are you related to the Otis Dewey Thomas that Flossie married? The Wheeler family I am mentioning is John Henry Wheeler. He married Ethel Virgie Wheeler. Ethel Wheeler is the daughter of James Columbus Jones and Mary Sharlotte Gabbert Jones. I am also kin to Melvina Gabbert Palmer, who was a half sister to Rebecca Jane Gabbert Jones and Mary Sharlotte Gabbert Jones. Bertha Gabbert Tabor, who married Isaac Shipman Tabor, and to Eleanor Gabbert Stamper, who was married to John Stamper. I am collecting family information on these families. I have quite a lot on the Gabbert's, including Nelson Gabbert, father of the daughters mentioned above and also quite a bit on the Jones family. Thanks in advance for your reply. Sincerely, Jean -----Original Message----- From: Michael Thomas <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, October 19, 2000 9:40 PM Subject: [TXBROWN] Wheelers in Pleasant Valley Cemetery >Posted on: Brown County Queries >Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Brown/671 > >Surname: Thomas, Smith, Jones, Gammon, Gabbert >------------------------- > >I am from Holder in Brown, Co. and am related to a majority of the folks >in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Posted on: Brown County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Brown/674 Surname: Horseman ------------------------- Seeking information on Thomas Horseman & wife, Elva Lee Jones; moved to Brown County, Texas from Bath County, Kentucky in early 1890s, maybe with two of his brothers, Richard and Johnson? I am positive that they had a son named Chester (1884 - 1956) married to Mae S. Coburn (?). I need the names of Chester's siblings, along with ANY other information that anyone has. A nice lady named Juanita Naron provided me with their place of burial. Elva Lee Jones was my grandfather's first wife. I am a descendent from his second marriage. I believe that Elva Lee remarried a man by the surname of Chamberlain. I'm sorry that I've been so lengthy! Please help me if you can. Thanks so much.

Posted on: Brown County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Brown/670 Surname: Thomas, Smith, Jones, Gammon, Gabbert ------------------------- I grew up at Byrds Store on the Pecan Bayou in Brown Co. I know of no Pecan Bayou Cemetery. There was the cemetery at Byrds, Flat Rock Cemetery a few miles up the Bayou from Byrds (on private property and not open to the public -- a very old, abandoned cemetery but rather large), Pleasant Valley (near Holder), and Lost Creek Cemetery west of May. Do you know if your people lived north or south of Brownwood? I am only familiar with the Bayou north of Lake Brownwood. I don't know if I can be of any help, but I would be glad to try.
