At time of death he was 82 years, 10 months, and 9 days of age, his 83rd. birthday falling on the 18th. of the coming July. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4:30 from the Harwell Funeral Home, and will be conducted by Rev. J. W. Johnson, for many years a personal friend of deceased. Interment will be at Atkins, Arkansas, on Wednesday afternoon, May 30th. The remains are to be shipped over the Frisco midnight train tonight accompanied by his sons, J. M. Austin and W.Y. Austin. Atkins was the old home of deceased. Phillip Washington Austin was born in Loraine co. Tennessee on July 18th. 1845, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Young Austin, highly respected pioneer family of that section. At the age of 2 years he moved with the family to Pope co. Arkansas, where he resided until he volunteered in the United States Army for service in the Civil War, on September 10th, 1863: serving until honorable discharged on August 18, 1865. After his discharge he returned to Pope Co. where he was married to Miss Mary C. Rhyne. They resided there for several years,Mrs. Austin dying in 1900, and Mr. Austin with the family moved to Texas in 1903. He first settled near Blanket, in Brown co. engaging in farming in that and other Brown co. communities until he moved to Brownwood in 1911, where he resided sontinuously until the time of his death. To Mr. and Mrs. Austin were born three sons and seven daughters, the sons and five of the daughters surviving his. Two daughters, Mdmes. Talle and Loanna Robinson, died several years ago. Children surviving are, three sons, Marvin Holder, Brown co. Texas, W.? Austin, 200 Main Ave. Brownwood, Texas, J. M. Austin, Coggin Ave, Brownwood, and five daughters, Mesdames J. R. Whitesides, Rochester, Texas, R. P. Smith, Russellville, Ark. D. M. Hayes, Atkins Ark. W. M. Dykes, King, Texas, T. W. Earnest, 707 Ave. G Brownwood Texas. Mr. Austin was a Christian gentelman, a member of the Methodist Church for many years. He led an active and useful life, until a few years ago when his health began failing and since that time he had been growing more feeble until the time of his last illness and death. Back in his old home section he has many friends who mourn his death, and during his residence in Brownwood and Brown Co. he has made many close friends by his unfailing kindness and gentleness of spirit, and to these friends the death comes as a very real grief and loss, and these many friends and acquaintances join the bereaving relatives in sincerely mourning the passing of this good man.

    2. Hello, Katie Lewis Pittman was my husband's step mother. I am trying to research her family for her grandson. I believe Beulah Roberts was Katie's aunt, but I am not sure if Beulah was a Lewis. Jack Roberts married Glenda Aline Harris. I think Jack was the son of Beulah (and Ed?) Roberts. I know Jack was connected somehow to Katie's family. Glenda Aline Harris is my husband's cousin on his Harris line.As you can tell I have very little on Katie's family.
