    2. Bobby J. Wadsworth
    3. Posted on: Brown County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Brown/10792 Surname: ASHFORD, CHAPPELL, WOMACK, CONNOR ------------------------- James C. ASHFORD was b. 14 Mar 1823 in AL (possibly Tuscaloosa County). He was the son of Michael ASHFORD and Mary "Polly" CHAPPELL, who were married 19 Nov 1805 in TN. James married Jane WOMACK, 22 Dec 1847 in Itawamba Co., MS. I believe her parents were Nathan and Luvicy WOMACK, who acquired federal land in Itawamba County -- just south of the Tishomingo county line -- in 1845. This is also where the ASHFORDs settled. James and Jane appear on the 1850 US census of Itawamba Co., MS. By 1859, they had moved to Smith Co., TX, and appear on the census there in 1860. James purchased land in Ellis Co., TX, (about 3 miles SE of Ennis) in 1863. I have not found this family on the 1870 census, although they apparently lived in Ellis County until at least 1875. I just discovered the fact that the ASHFORDs moved to Brown County before the 1880 census. I had lost track of them after 1875. Your information was most helpful! I show James and Jane ASHFORD with only four children: 1. Mary ASHFORD, b. c1849, Itawamba Co., MS. (Based on the probate record you mentioned, she must be the Mollie D. ASHFORD who married John CONNOR, 18 Apr 1869 in Ellis Co., TX.) 2. Elizabeth ASHFORD, b. c1851, Itawamba Co., MS. (Married George COX, per your information.) 3. John ASHFORD, b. c1855, MS. 4. Ann ASHFORD, b. c1859, Smith Co., TX. I have no idea if Ann is the one who married Arthur BURNS or if Julia was a different child born after 1860. I would love to exchange information with you! My wife descends from John S. ASHFORD (1817-1852), who was a brother to your James C. ASHFORD.
