D.C. Powell was my Uncle. I am so glad I got to spend some time with him while I was in Texas. He had a great sense of humor. Becky MELVIN POWELL DeKalbTexas----Melvin "D.C." Powell, 81, of DeKalb died Thursday, July 27, 2000 in a Texarkana hospital. Mr Powell was born June 5,1919 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He was a ranch and farm foreman and member of Springhill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter Paulette Powell in 1951. Survivors include Jacqueline Pope Powell of DeKalb, six sons Roger Powell of Nash, Texas; Charlie Powell, Johnny Powell, Bryan Powell of DeKalb and Tim Powell of Wake Village, Texas; three daughters Sharon Norwood of Plano, Texas, Jeanette Thomas of Simms, Texas and Janie Bishop of Texarkana; one sister Sue Nelson of Vancouver, Wash. 14 grandchildren and number of nieces nephews and other relatives. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Baptist church with the Rev. Paul Burkhalter and Johnny Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery under direction of Bates-Rolf Funeral Home.
