    3. I am researching the following families of Bowie County: Askew, Cowen, Fox, Looney, Lawhon, Manor, and Ward. Major brickwall is John W. Askew b. 1818 TN d. 1904 in Malta. John's first wife was Mary Looney (daughter of David Looney and Isabella Lawhon) David Looney was one of the original signers on the petition to make Bowie County a County. John and Mary had 9 children. Margaret, Martha, Britton, Clara, James, George, Matilda, Sarah, and Orre. Mary died sometime between 1868 and 1870, perhaps from difficulties after having her last child Orre Della born in 1868. John W. married a second time in 1872 to a lady with the initials of M.J. (maiden name unknown) they had 3 children. Laura, Minnie, and Augustus. John and his families are on all the census years of Bowie County from 1850 through 1900. John was 81 on the 1900 Census. His second wife M.J. must of died as she is not on this census with him. John and M.J.'s daughter Minnie, married Neut (Newton) Terrel, a well known family in Bowie County. Would love to hear from anyone connected with these families. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Becky
