I got this from another list, and thought someone might find it helpful. Becky :) READING THE HANDWRITING One of the most difficult challenges in doing genealogical research is reading the handwriting of some of the recorders, such as clerks and priests. You may find that some recorders didn't write entirely in English; they mixed in letters from their native language. For instance, you may encounter vowels written in German script, such as an "e" that looks like an "n"; an "s" that looks like a loop hanging down; or an "h" that resembles an "f." For tips on how to read some of the handwriting, go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~genclass/110/gen110_14.htm You'll find examples of handwriting from different centuries as well as examples of different types of Germanic and Latinized script.
