    1. [TXBOWIE] A Bowie Co Cemetery Search
    2. Hello; I received a message yesterday from a lady looking for a particular Cemetery in Bowie Co. If you think you know of this cemetery and can help, please write back to me. Below are her two messages to me, and there is a picture attachment I can not send on to the list, but will send to anyone directly if you are interested in seeing it. ************************************* Subj: a question From: [email protected] (Susan Hawkins) To: [email protected] I have spoken to the person who wrote about Texas Cemeterys and they couldnt get the name of the Cemetery pictured in Bowie County that was unusal for its enlongated mounds and huge amouts of household furniture and objects placed caringly along the mounds , Do you know of the cemetery I describe? The stones are all alike and there is even a rocking horse on one grave. susan *********************************** Subj: Re: a question From: [email protected] (Susan Hawkins) To: [email protected] I have looked and looked and not found it . It was one of the University presses and several years ago I was at Austin and the book was talked about that day. i was so amused by the cemetery picture that I asked if I could make an overhead projection of the image and the author said yes. the librarian made it right there. i use it amonst others in my talks about cemeteries and especially southern ones. I will attach a scan of the image. Perhaps your group can figure out which one it is. SOMEONE has to know about this facination. I have seem similar in Texas but this one indeed takes the cake. I had figured that it would be so well known in the county ..... unless it was missed for if the caretaker was gone now it might be mistaken for a dump if weeds grew up in it. I wanted to come and take color pictures . It is an old tradtion, especially the mounding of the graves I just hadn't seen one this elongated. susan hawkins Fannin county TxGenWeb master and Tombstone transcription person.
