    3. Bowie County Citizens Tribune July 16,2000, page 7 Used with permission By STUART PROCTOR of the News Staff They may not be interior decorators, but the results of their work can readily be seen. The DeKalb High School coaches spruced up a run-down weight room and then cleaned out a storage room at the middle school and turned it into a locker room. "The locker room will be a first for the middle school program as they have never had one," said AD/Head Football Coach Buddy Ray. Ray complimented coaches Richard Coleman, Stacy Starrett, Joe Anderson, Michael Hill and Fred Thrower for their hard work to upgrade the school's facilities. The coaches were not just doing their jobs. Four of the coaches, Coleman, Starrett, Anderson and Hill, are on 10-month contracts, so they were not paid for their time or energy in remodeling the athletic facilities. Ray said the district would only have to pay $200 for the paint and supplies to repaint the weight room, due to the volunteer labor of the coaches. The coaches also gave up their coaching school trip to Houston to provide mirrors and some other equipment for the weight room. By using the coaching school money, DeKalb will not spend any additional funds on this project. Work will continue Tuesday when the full coaching staff returns to fix up the coaching offices, which have been moved due to the renovations.
