You go towards Atlanta, cross Sulpher River and go east two or three miles, staying close to the river. There is a place called Old Soldiers Campgrounds. It has a bricked spring that used to have really clear, cold water. It has been over thirty years since I've been there. Since Mr. Deaton died in the 70s the road may have grown up. If you already have this please excuse me and if not I hope it helps. Mary >> Mary, no I do not have any information on this spot, but sure would like to. My husband and I live 3 miles north of the river bridge on highway 59. Going south from our home, cross the bridge, he says there is a road that turns back to the left on the Cass County side of the river, behind a small rest area. This road is almost parallel with the river. The road goes two or three miles along the river (that is how far he went before turning around, a trail may go further, but the road ended at the river.), but where do we look for this spring? Does that seem like the right road to you? Vicki

Bowie County Citizens Tribune July 16,2000, page 7 Used with permission By STUART PROCTOR of the News Staff They may not be interior decorators, but the results of their work can readily be seen. The DeKalb High School coaches spruced up a run-down weight room and then cleaned out a storage room at the middle school and turned it into a locker room. "The locker room will be a first for the middle school program as they have never had one," said AD/Head Football Coach Buddy Ray. Ray complimented coaches Richard Coleman, Stacy Starrett, Joe Anderson, Michael Hill and Fred Thrower for their hard work to upgrade the school's facilities. The coaches were not just doing their jobs. Four of the coaches, Coleman, Starrett, Anderson and Hill, are on 10-month contracts, so they were not paid for their time or energy in remodeling the athletic facilities. Ray said the district would only have to pay $200 for the paint and supplies to repaint the weight room, due to the volunteer labor of the coaches. The coaches also gave up their coaching school trip to Houston to provide mirrors and some other equipment for the weight room. By using the coaching school money, DeKalb will not spend any additional funds on this project. Work will continue Tuesday when the full coaching staff returns to fix up the coaching offices, which have been moved due to the renovations.

It was approximately 10 miles south of Maud on Hwy. 8. It closed about 1970 and I don't know if any buildings are still there. I doubt that they are because the buildings were in bad shape when it closed. It's on private land. The road is blocked and the site cannot be reached by car. The lodge was on Lake Wright Patman. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jmautrey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 06, 2000 10:41 PM Subject: [TXBOWIE] Lake Kickapoo Lodge, Maud, Texas > Folks, I received this message today.
