    1. [TXBOWIE] JOHNSON Family
    2. Hi I am researching the JOHNSON family of Bowie County. My great grandfather was James H Johnson. I found him on the 1900 census living in Redwater. His occupation was listed as teacher. He is listed with his wife and 8 children. They had 11 children total. I was wondering if anyone knew what the names of the schools were at that time. And if there is any information on them. This family is African American. Also in the 1910 census I find his wife Malissa listed as head of household with her daughter Etta (occupation :Hotel worker) and 2 sons Robert and David. 3. STRANGERS IN THE BOX Come, look with me inside this drawer, In this box I've often seen, At the pictures, black and white, Faces proud, still, serene. I wish I knew the people, These strangers in the box, Their names and all their memories Are lost among my socks. I wonder what their lives were like, How did they spend their days? What about their special times? I'll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time To tell who, what, where, or when, These faces of my heritage Would come to life again. Could this become the fate Of the pictures we take today? The faces and the memories Someday to be passed away? Make time to save your stories, Seize the opportunity when it knocks, Or someday you and yours could be....... The strangers in the box.

    1. [TXBOWIE] Fw: Cox buried in Sand Hill Cemetery
    2. Jonathan Cox
    3. Somone transcribed Sand Hill Cemetery for the New Boston Genealogical Society. They listed a tombstone for John J. COX that is no longer there. Does anyone know who this might have been ? I'm hoping they may still have notes on the actual location of the grave . I cannot get the tombstone replaced until I know the location. I've contacted funeral homes and the board that oversees the caretaking. No one seems to have a platt of the cemetery. If I even knew what the closest tombstone was it might help. Thanks, Tammy

    2. Hi: This is a fwd. from Tim Bell, [email protected] Subj: R.W. Hooks Date: 11/17/00 6:14:58 AM Pacific Standard Time From:    [email protected] (dayna v bell) I was referred to you by Gloria Mayfield. She thought you might be able to help my search on Lieutenant-Colonel Robert W. Hooks. Hooks enlisted as Captain in Company K, 11th Texas Cavalry, CSA, from Bowie County. I believe his father, Warren Hooks, was the wealthiest man in that part of the country prior to the war. Hooks returned to Texas after the surrender, and was ostensibly killed in a sawmill explosion in Bowie County in 1870. I have heard there is a Hooks family cemetery, but have been unable to locate it thus far. Hooks also had a brother, Charles, that served in his company. I would appreciate any help you could provide, and would be willing to share what information I have on Co. K, 11th Texas Cavalry, if you're interested. Thanks, Tim Bell.
