Just want to correct a name for anyone researching this line. In various published works of marriage licenses issued in Smith County TX for George S. S. - Miss Julian Millam 13 Dec 1855 Book A-1 203 Bosque County: Land and People (A History of Bosque County Texas, Compiled by The Bosque County History Book Committee, 1985, ISBN:0-88107-029-7 p.65 Powell Dale ElaRuth Bankston McCullough at F722 tells the story of George S. Powell's second wife, after Julia Milburn died. ..."Azelia and George Powell reared seven children: (1) Prucy Lu Powell (m. James Strange)... " it names the other children and their mates. At narrative F978, Ms. McCullough writes ...."George S. Powell, fourth child of Green Powell married in Smith County, Texas, but his wife, Julian Milam, died in childbirth with their daughter, Prucy Lu (m. Strange). George S. struggled with rearing a small child until he met a young widow whose parents settled just across the river from Powelldale...." [My note: I made a copy of this license at the Smith Co TX Courthouse a couple of weeks ago, which shows "Julian Milburn"--with the "n" on "Julian" made as a couple of 'squiggles'...] She was actually Julia MILBURN, according to a letter I have in my possession written by her half-brother, who named her & George Powell & mentioned the rock house on the Brazos. She was b. abt 1836 in Alabama. d. 17 Sep 1856 Bosque Co, TX during the birth of her only child, a daughter named Prucy Lu. Julia was the daughter of Williamson Milburn & Prucy Yarbrough. Williamson was a Baptist preacher at Starrville in Smith Co TX. After the death of Julia, George S. Powell and little 2 yr old Prucy (showns as Prucia L) are found on the 1860 census living with his father, Green, and siblings in the rock house on the Brazos at Powell Dale.
