    3. Somehow, I lost all the contents of my mail inbox folders where I kept my family tree mail data, so I have lost URL's, snail mail addresses & all sorts of information people have sent me. I hadn't backed it up for a few months, so it is gone. So I will have to ask questions all over again & search for a lot of things over. I had a folder for each family name & for correspondence, etc. I have no clue what happened but I am heart-sick. Pat Sommerfeld Lyon (mother Anna Victoria Urban, father Rinert F. 3. Pat, I believe those files can be located....they are somewhere in your computer......... Try to recall what you were doing when they disappeared.............call a computer store (that has technicians) for their advice......they can probably dig them out....will keep my fingers crossed! 3. Pat - Here is a website that has instructions for recovering mail files. http://www.okinfoweb.com/moe/mail/mail_016.htm It is an old website, and lots of the info was developed for OE 4.x. However, I have found that a lot if it still applies to OE 5.x. I'm not sure about OE 6.x, but it might beworth a try. It does take a lot of time & patience to recover 'lost' or 'deleted' files, but it can often be done using these instructions. Good Luck -- Willaim Perkins ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Lyon" <patsroar@htcomp.net> To: <TXBOSQUE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 15 April, 2002 9:35 AM Subject: [TXBOSQUE] lost folders > Somehow, I lost all the contents of my mail inbox folders where I kept my family tree mail data, so I have lost URL's, snail mail addresses & all sorts of information people have sent me. 3. Pat - Below is a copy of a msg I copied from a 'newsgroup' website, which further expounds on the info on the Eric Miller website 'link' I sent you previously. This msg clarifies the difference in OE 4.x & OE 5.x/OE 6.x mail file nomenclature. I am not familiar with the two links in this msg, but they might be worth checking out, also. ======================================================== Subject: Re: lost e-mail? Attachments: None From: "Michael Santovec" <michael_santovec@prodigy.net> Sent: 4/13/2002 4:01:51 PM The MBX files are from OE4. If you were recently using OE5, you want to find the *.DBX files. Normally on upgrade, your old mail is automatically imported. Sometimes this fails and you need to do a manual import (File, Import). If you were previously using OE5, select OE6 as the import type since OE5 and OE6 use the same file formats. For more information, see: Backing Up, Recovering and Restoring OE5/6 Files and Settings http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/backup.htm http://www.tomsterdam.com/insideOE/backup/index.htm -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm Michal wrote in message <225601c1e324$9c35bda0$19ef2ecf@tkmsftngxa01>... >I upgraded my ouutlook express from v.5 to v.6 after >upgrading, I lost all my old e-mails and sub-directories. >is this recoverable? i found few files that seem to be >those lost mails, with the suffix *.mbx - with what >application can it be opened? > >thanx in advance >Michal > ======================================================== I cut & pasted the above from this website: http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?ICP=GSS3&NewsGroup=micr osoft.public.internet.mail&SLCID=US&scrollnews=m1s4s2s1 which is a MS Internet Mail 'Newsgroup' website. One thing I seem to remember Re recovering files is: DO NOT compact your mail files, if you intend to try to recover the lost ones. Further, I think that means DO NOT shutdown your computer, as I believe that OE sometimes performs a 'file compression' on the mail files when the computer is shutdown. Again - Good Luck in your efforts ! ! -- William Perkins ============================================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Lyon" <patsroar@htcomp.net> To: <TXBOSQUE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 15 April, 2002 9:35 AM Subject: [TXBOSQUE] lost folders > Somehow, I lost all the contents of my mail inbox folders where I kept my family tree mail data, so I have lost URL's, snail mail addresses & all sorts of information people have sent me.
