The changes are due to actions of the 78th Texas Legislature. The increases affect vital statistics records obtained at the county clerk's office in the Bosque County Courthouse in Meridian. Copies of birth certificates will increase from $11 to $12, while copies of remote birth certificates from state records will remain at $11 each. Copies of a death certificate will rise from $9 to $10 for the first copy, and from $3 to $4 for subsequent copies. Copies of marriage licenses will increase from $36 to $37, and copies of declarations of informal marriage will rise to $32 from the previous $31 fee. The increases, a fee to be used for the preservation of vital statistics records, were authorized by Senate Bill 1744, which amended the Health and Safety Code (191.0045) to allow local registrars to collect the additional funds. New criminal fees noted by County Clerk Outlaw include a $30 state traffic fee on offenses committed after Sept. 1, 2003. The court cost is imposed on all offenses of the Transportation Code (Subtitle C, Rules of the Road). A new $100 court cost fee on all first- and second-offense driving while intoxicated convictions will be charged beginning Jan. 1.
