    1. [TXBEXAR] Charles Ray, b. Feb. 1858
    2. CHARLES RAY
    3. My Great Grandfather Charles Ray was born in San Antonio in 1858. There is no information in our family history that tells who Charles Ray's parents, brothers, or sisters were.  He never spoke of them. Facts: He seems to have disappeared for 31 years before he participated in the Oklahoma Land Run on April 22, 1889 and homesteaded in Meridian, OK.  He married Ida Burnison and they had three children, James, Jesse, and Ella were born in Guthrie.  In about 1900, Charles was in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and took a homestead there.  In 1916, he returned to Mulberry, Kansas and buried his wife in the Mulberry Cemetery.  His two sons deserted the Canadian Army in 1916 and moved to Kansas when their mother died.  Ella married in Canada and remained there.  After burying his wife in Mulberry, Charles returned to Guthrie, Oklahoma where he died on February 22, 1946. His Death Certificate indicates that he was born in San Antonio. This Death Certificate is about all I have to go by.  Charles Ray's descendant tree is a big one. I've added over 4,000 names to my ancestors and cousins but after 40 years of searching through genealogy records, I can't seem to get past "Charles Ray, b. 1858, San Antonio." I have spent years writing family history and searching through the wrong families for clues  Seems there were at least 4 Charles Ray boys born in 1858.  The Charles Ray b. 1858 in Granbury is buried in Granbury, Texas. The Charles Ray b. 1858 in WIlliamson/Bell county is buried in Belton, Texas. The Charles Ray b. 1858 in Overton is buried in Rusk County, Texas. My Charles Ray b. 1858 in San Antonio is buried in Guthrie, Oklahoma. I am stumped.  I have no idea where to look in San Antonio or Texas to find birth information on my Charles Ray.  Any information or thoughts to help me will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Charles W. Ray, Jr b. 1944
