    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smith, Curbelo Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DkB.2ACI/894.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Nell, Yes, I am talking about John William Smith and Maria de Jesus Curbelo. They are/were my grandparents (great great great?) My mother's mother, Esther Campbell Brown, was the daughter or granddaughter of one of their children. I remember as a child being taken to the Alamo and shown a picture of John Smith ( a redhead as my mother and all three of her children are/were!) and being told about his job as the "Messenger" of the Alamo. I've heard rumor of his picture being taken down from the Alamo because he did not actually die there, but he is my great great great (great?) grandfather. So I know more about him than about the Curbelo side of things. I do know a little bit about their coming to San Antonio in the first trip and being the first settlers but I don't know much more. I also know Maria remarried after Smith passed away, but I don't know anything about who she married or when and who that clan is. Also, I have only been to San Antonio once, as a small child, and visited my Great Aunt Lida Campbell while there. She was my grandmother Esther's sister and they were from San Antonio. I know I must have hordes of relatives from both sides and would love to know more about this amazing family. I thank you for any help you can offer. Suzanne
