    3. Hi, list members Just thought I would let you all know that Sarah has unsubscribed. I think we should all back up and rethink what has gone on the last few days. I do apologize for telling people to unsubscribe, that was out of line. I still feel strongly about the treatment of our cemeteries. And don't understand why there was so much uproar on this mailing list about this subject. But from an e-mail I received this morning, fighting has been going on on other mailing lists plus some rude private e-mails. Mayby it is the weather. I would still like to find some living cousins from my DAVIS line. We are trying to find the parents for John Lucas DAVIS b. 11 May 1797 in Georgia. Would be nice to find someone who has that information. G. Winters

    3. Why don't you try the Davis SURNAME lists -- That's where I go for relative names. I go to the Bexar list for the history and issues of that county. I go to the Bexar County list to find people to help me with items of interest of a range of families who lived in Bexar County. 2. Listers I can not tell you how disappointed I was to see how Sarah was treated... and the reaction to her interests. I don't understand it. Haven't you all ever been excited about accomplishing something and making a difference -- and for her enthusiasm and desire to take action she was SHUNNED and people were told to unsubscribe? We live in very interesting times these days... You will find rude people everywhere.. and rude emails. That's what the delete button is for... and it was my impression that everyone should at least act like an adult. It isn't the weather -- its called intolerance, over-reacting and not listing to be helpful. Back to genealogy -- I hope the cemetery clean up is a success. I will email Sarah offline and ask her to contact the local media once it is all organized... that way you can let other people in the community know about it and perhaps recruit more volunteers and interest. In the meantime -- let's keep genealogy fun and exciting. By the way -- my ancestors are buried in the City Cemetery #3 In San Antonio -- they are KNOWLES and WEBSTER and VAUGHAN... all African American. Here is a listing for Bexar Co. Cemeteries.. some are transcribed. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txbexar/cemeteries.htm I would be very interested in knowing more about Black cemeteries in the San Antonio area. Traci Wilson-Kleekamp

    3. Almost afraid to press reply-all -- It is such a joy to finally get emails from this site -- There was an African American buried in one of the city cemeteries that worked for one of the presidents in the White House. My daughter helped the Institute of Texan Cultures have a special display dedicated to her history. It was around 1998-99. Don't know if they put anything about it on permanent display. There was a special article in one of the San Antonio newspapers about the burial site, cemetery, and the display. Perhaps there would be something at the Institiue on that section of burial sites. 2. I just checked my notes and saw that there are black burials at the Cantu and Griffith Cemeteries. I was hoping to find a listing online somewhere.. I thought I had a one point. Now I can't find it. My grandfather -- Ernest Webster used to work for the Karotkin family who ran a very reputable Furniture Store in downtown San Antonio. I've read that the Karotkins were early business founders of San Antonio TX. Ernest was the owner of W & W Grocery located at F RF at 819 S. Pine in 1948. In 1951 he was a driver for Jorrie Furniture -- he lived at r RD 1 Box 359 Ditto for 1952-53 In 1954 he was still a driver for Jorrie Furniture and lived on RD1 Laguna Rd. I've been told that Ernest lived outside of San Antonio and owned 38 acres of land. He wife was Julia Vaughan who died in 1950. Ernest and his wife adopted my mother Julia in 1945. There are mysteries such as Ernest being her real father and Julia not her mother. I've been told my mother was in an orphanage... don't know anything about orphanages in San Antonio during the 40s. Ernest had a half brother named William Evans and a brother named Aaron Webster and Annie Lee. Ernest was born August or 1895-96. I believe he served in WWI. Actually, she worked for Rachel Jackson Donelson Knox Eckford (who is CC#2 and whose tombstone I had repaired last year) who was born in the Whitehouse. Her father was Andrew Jackson's personal secretary. The African America (who was a slave and give to Rachel by Andrew Jackson) was Emeline Miller.
