    3. This is in reply to "=glo='s" ([email protected]) posting to this list earlier today. I am assuming you are a beginning genealogist. Please forgive me if this is an incorrect assumption. First, I would suggest a book or seminar on beginning genealogy. You might try "RootsWeb's Guide to Tracing Family Trees," starting with Guide No. 1 at the following site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson1.htm I also see at the following site that the San Antonio Historical and Genealogical Society offers courses in both beginner and intermediate genealogy: http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etxsaghs2/educatn.htm I started out in 1976 with a small paperback book that I bought at a bookstore in one of the San Antonio malls. The following site gives you county names when you only know the name of the town and state. You will need the county name to know where to find the information you are seeking. http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi From the above-mentioned site, I find that Pharr is in Hidalgo County. I also find this same information on the following alphabetical list of Texas towns: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/cities-p-t.htm A search of this latter site for a town with a name spelled like "Saspango" of "Saxpango" shows Saspamco in Wilson County. You may find another match that I missed. The following site shows the location of Texas counties in relation to one another: http://www.census-online.com/links/TX/ Notice that Hidalgo County is near the far southeastern tip of Texas, in an area known as the Rio Grande Valley. Wilson County is north of there, just southeast of Bexar County. Try searching for your paternal grandmother on the 1930 census for Saspamco, Wilson Co., TX. The 1940 census has not yet been released to the public. If you live in or near Bexar County, you can search the censuses at the downtown branch of the San Antonio Public Library. I have had no experience with Indian records, so I can't be of much help there. A librarian in the Texana (genealogy) section of the downtown branch of the San Antonio Public Library or another subscriber to this list might be able to give you some direction in that area.
