Do you have access to a 1910 San Antonio directory? I'm particularly interested in a Martha Jane (Mattie) York (Mrs. James York?) who worked as a cook at the State Hospital in 1908-1909--so family stories unfold. She was born ca 1863 in AR I believe. Thank you again.

    1. MacAulay Clan Society DNA Project
    2. CLAN MACAULAY DNA Project
    3. The project has eleven members so far and more are needed. We include the many variations of the name: McCauley, MacAulay, McCawley, McGauley, McCowley, McColley, Macauley, Cawley, Magawley, McCooley, Gauley, etc. The original Gaelic form of MacAulay was MacAmlaiobh or MacAmhalghaidh. There were at least two Irish clans with these names: (1) in southern Fermanagh the descendants of Awley Maguire formed a sept of the Maguire clan, (2) in County Westmeath an important branch of the Southern O’Neill clan took the surname MacAwley. (3) Scottish settlers, most of whom settled in Ulster, especially County Antrim, are believed to account for the majority of McAuleys in Ireland. (McAuliffe, O’Calla, and McCollough are different surnames which are occasionally anglicized as McCauley.) Since there were at least four Scottish clans and two Irish clans of this name, and since most of their descendants have dispersed from the ancestral territories, it is extremely difficult for many McAulays to pinpoint their ancestral clan. Fortunately, DNA analysis technology can now help identify long-forgotten relationships, and the MacAulay Clan Society is coordinating a MacAulay DNA Study that will help MacAuleys find out which clan they are descended from. For more information on this project goto: http://members.aol.com/themacmog/DNA.htm Irish Prayer: May those who love us, love us; and those who don't love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He doesn't turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we'll know them by their limping.

    2. Vince Terracina
    3. Hi group- This is not so much an "ancestry" question, but I thought someone in the group may know the answer to this question. I am doing some history on a piece of family land in NW Bexar county and trying to find out when the property was purchased and for how much. The challenge is it was actually done cumulatively in small pieces over many years. I went to the Bexar county courthouse and spent 2 hours going through these huge books that showed change in deed records, but that was taking me forever. Is there another way? Thanks! Vince

    1. Burial place of KATE CAMPBELL MERRITT CLARKSON (1843-post 1920)?
    2. John A. Stovall
    3. KATE CAMPBELL MERRITT CLARKSON was the subject of an article in "Frontier Times" (vol. 5 #7) where she told of life in San Antino prior to and during the Civil War. She married a Capt. C.H. Merritt (a native Virginian) and had 12 children; her husband died 9/1/1887. She tells of Capt. Merritt's wartime service and he seemingly was in Pyron's Regt. of Sibley's Brigade, and later in "the regiment commanded by Col. John Baylor and Col. Rip Ford and was asssigned quartermaster duty". It appears she remarried a Clarkson after Merritt's death. I'm trying to locate her burial place for the second volume of _Texas Burial Sites of Civil War Notables_. Any information on her would be most welcome.

    2. Can you give an exact quote with the word in question? Perhaps someone can dope out the word when it is used in context. It seems NOT to be in the German online dictionary. (Use google.com search terms *german dictionary* ) If you see the word dresden in the URL, that is is! E.W.Wallace

    3. Go to the link below for the Texas Handbook Online and put in the word "sauz" in the search box; a number of hits will come up to click on. However, I cannot see a connection to LaCoste, which is in Medina Co. Another definition of the word "suaz or "sauz" is that it means "weeping willow" in Spanish? This is a puzzler!
