A list of some of those newspapers can be found at the following site: http://www.primetimenewspapers.com/ These are a great untapped resource. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, these newspapers do not include articles of genealogical significance, such as wedding announcements and obituaries, on their Internet sites at this time. I receive the "Herald" at my home, which serves the northeast Bexar County and nearby communities of Bracken, Cibolo, Converse, Garden Ridge, Kirby, Live Oak, Marion, Randolph Air Force Base, Schertz, Selma, Universal City, and Windcrest. I've just had a look at the image again and realised that Albert's name is spelt COLLINRIDGE, which is one of the more common variations. I hadn't spotted that before. He's shown as being 40 in that census. It looks as though his son in law Joe (?)GONZALES, daughter Louise and 3 grandsons, Albert, Joe and Sam are living with them. They're in Precinct 33, They seem to be the same address as they were in 1930. His occupation looks like "Watchman, Govt Warehouse". 3. I have discovered a potential relative but all I know about him is as follows: He was born Albert Edward COLLINGRIDGE, St Geo Han Sq, London in the June qtr of 1875 (birth certificate on order). He immigrated in 1880 but from where to where I don't know. (Information received.) He next appears mentioned in The Dallas Mornining News as taking part in an exhibition musical drill in 1909 and correctly shown as being from London. (I have the image.) On the 1910 US Census he's at Ft Sam Houston (US Army, Troop E, 3rd Cavalry) born abt 1876, divorced, alien and of all English parentage. (Information received.) In the 1917 WWI draft registrations, Albert's shown as being born June 14 1879, naturalised, living in Texas and his next of kin is Mary. I believe this is the same person. (Information received.) The 1920 census shows him resident in San Antonio with wife Mary, but claiming to be born in Illinois with his father born in New York and his mother in Pennsylvania. (I have the image.) The 1930 census shows him still resident in San Antonio and still with wife Mary, but this time he claims to have been born in California and that both parents were born in Germany. (I have the image.) The final mention for him is on the gravelocator site which gives the following: CPL US ARMY DATE OF BIRTH: 06/05/1874 DATE OF DEATH: 08/15/1945 BURIED AT: SECTION I SITE 155 FT. SAM HOUSTON NATIONAL CEMETERY I've been told he was buried on August 18. He has not shown up on the Castle Gardens site but I am aware that this is not yet complete. What I would like to try to find out is when he immigrated, which port and any help with information, sources and resources which would enable me to build up his life would be very much appreciated. I'm not familiar with US genealogy as all my family have previously only been located in England. I don't have access to Ancestry. Albert's a loose end that I'd like to tie down.

    3. About Rosa Sedo/Sido Brink One of the first land holders of Bexar County was August Sido. The surveyor called him an "old man." He died. Bexar County Deed records have Martin Sido of WI giving Joseph Gussen of Tezel Road, Bexar, Texas, the power of Attorney to sell this land to John Sido. And now I see a deed Grantor: Michael & Rosa Brink to Grantee Jno Sido. Recorded Dec. 18, 1885 in Vol. 44. Page number blured on microfilm -- starts 85- We may be able to have a more-established genetic relationship between Martin Sedo, John Sido, Rosa Sedo, and Julia Siedo Gussen with this deed. John Sido was living on Joseph and Julia Siedo Gussen's Ranch in 1900. If the Bexar County Deed office is still the mess it was last time I was there, I wouldn't wish a look-up on anyone for this time period. Just note in your records for a future investigation. 2. My Mom was born in Saspamco, Wilson County in 1912. To my knowledge there are at least 3 cemeteries there. I don't remember the name of the church there but I believe it to be the newest one. There is another wood frame church on the old Corpus Christi Road, it too has a cemetery. I'm told that the original church burned. Further down the CC road is another cemetery across the RR tracks. Good Luck, Albert Seguin Carvajal Gonzales

    2. McCauley Genealogy
    3. On August 1, New York State’s first immigration processing center, Castle Garden, will celebrate its 150th birthday. To commemorate this Special occasion, the Battery Conservancy will launch its new website - CastleGarden.org - where researchers can do online searches of the expansive database of Castle Garden passenger lists! Castle Garden first opened its doors on August 1, 1855 and would see 8 million immigrants pass through her doors in her 34 year reign! The passenger lists pertaining to these 8 million immigrants are currently found at the National Archives, and they are *not* indexed. This monstrous project has been led by Dr. Ira Glazier, former Director of the Center for Migration Research at the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies and Immigration. To learn more about the Castle Garden website, and to be notified of its official launch, please see: http://www.CastleGarden.org Truly a dream come true for all those whose ancestors passed through the Castle! 1. Obituary of Anna Hasdorff Brink
    2. The following is the obituary of Anna Hasdorff Brink. It appeared in the San Antonio Express newspaper on Saturday February 18, 1950. There may be a discrepancy in the age, my records show she was born in 1872 and that would of made her 77 or 78 years old. BRINK - Mrs. Anna Hasdorf Brink, age 81 years, of 2101 Durango St., died at a local hospital Friday morning. She is survived my husband, J.P. Brink; daughters, Mrs. Florence B. Lance, Mrs. Helen B. Hansen, Mrs. Louis Ressling; sons, Raymond A. Brink, Alvin M. (Edd) Brink, Allan M. Brink; son-in-law, Charles F. Guenther, Jr. 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Service will be Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at the Porter Loring Chapel and at 9:30 at the Sacred Heart Church. Pallbearers will be Charles F. Guenther III, John J. Brink Jr., Victor Lawrence, Roger Lawrence, Charles Winters Jr., Richard Ressling Jr., Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Porter Loring. Also during searching for Anna's obituary I found the following Brink deaths: Anna's son Allan M. Brink died age 45, 5-19-1955 Gennieve Ethel Brink, possibly Anna's daughter-in-law, age 38, she has a son listed named J. J. Brink Jr., there is also a John J. Brink in Anna's obituary, this may be the family of her son John, he is not listed in obit, assumed dead. Anna's sister-in-laws: Francisca Brink, age 83, 3-8-1950, church listed is Lady of Guadalupe, brother John P. Brink and sister Bertha Brink listed as survivors. Bertha Brink, age 81, no date but after Francisca, church listed is St. Paul's Catholic Church. Hope this helps someones research. Ron Hesdorff [email protected] San Antonio, TX

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DkB.2ACI/866.1 Message Board Post: Suggestion: Ysleta, Texas is in El Paso County, not Bexar Co. (San Antonio). Furthermore, according to the Family History Library Catalog (Place search), there are a good many films of church records of Catholic churches in Ysleta. If you are near an LDS family history center, you can order films through that FHC--for a small fee--for a limited time. If your people were Catholic, the chances are fairly good that one or two persons will show up in the records of those churches--two are listed. Here's how you can conduct the search yourself on your home computer: Go to www.familysearch.org Go to the link for the FHL catalog, which is on the lower right side--as is a link to a LONG list of Family History centers around the world. When you access the catalog, then do a Place search. I typed in Ysleta, which I recall on a long-ago trip to El Paso, was a very small village. I then typed in Texas, and I believe there were only one or two topics--church records being one of those. Oh, yes, there was another--Emigration and immigration, which may be border crossing lists. As stated, you can read this microfilms at your local FH Center, after you pay a small fee and order them from Salt Lake City. If you need more information, e-mail me back. By the way, you mentioned the date 1875. The 1880 US census is on the same website given above. Look for the image of the older couple. Beneath that image will be the words *vast collections* [use your find toolbar, if you are confused and type in *vast*]. A long list of choices will appear. Choose the word Census. Then choose the 1880 US census. Type in some search terms--but don't give the computer too much information--it gets confused. I hope you can find your family on the 1880 census, which is free on the LDS website. However, if you say you want to see the image, there may be some prompts to get you to subscribe to Ancestry.com You may not want to do that. You can do this latter search from your home computer. Check the words on the upper right which say *Household* Happy hunting! E.W.Wallace
