Bexar County 1953 and 1954 births are listed at the following sites: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/bexar/vitals/births/1953/ ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/bexar/vitals/births/1954/ Unfortunately, parents' names are not listed in the on-line birth listings for those years. Perhaps these sites will be of use to you once you are able to gather a little more information. Sue Tilleman ([email protected])

    1. Marshall Cobb and Frances Cobb
    2. I am looking for an African American couple named Marshall and Frances (I think her maiden name was HOLT) Cobb. I think his full name is MARSHALL DEAN COBB They had a daughter named Gloria Dean Cobb in Sept of 1947. I have been able to trace Frances Holt and her family --- but can not find Marshall anywhere on the census. I believe Frances' father was JOHN HOLT and her mother was ALICE. They had several children in 1900: Josie Annie Stanley Edna Tuney (?) Frances John was previously married to Violet They had two children: Ollie and Julia and lived in Guadalupe Co. TX. John's 2nd marriage to Alice in 1900 finds them in Bexar Co living with HAWKINS, BOULDER and McARNEYS. Traci Wilson-Kleekamp

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DkB.2ACI/874.1 Message Board Post: If your people were still living in 1880 [ a lot of persons born c. 1850 would certainly be living], you could do a FREE census search of the 1880 census on www.familysearch.org Look for the words *vast collections* on the opening page. Then when a LONG list of these collections come up, scroll down to Census. There will be a choice of several censuses, only one, I recollect, of a US census--the 1880 census. If you find people with your surname (in a long list, we hope), then look at the top for *Household* Click on that. You are supposed to get a free look at the actual census image on Ancestry.com, but whenever I try that, it seems I have to sign up. DON'T DO THAT--you may end up with a bill for about $200 a year. Instead, if you are near an LDS center, call them up and ask the hours they are open and whether they have a subscription to Ancestry.com If they do, try to go to the LDS center and find other censuses for your folks. Good luck!!! E.W.Wallace

    3. This is in reply to "=glo='s" ([email protected]) posting to this list earlier today. I am assuming you are a beginning genealogist. Please forgive me if this is an incorrect assumption. First, I would suggest a book or seminar on beginning genealogy. You might try "RootsWeb's Guide to Tracing Family Trees," starting with Guide No. 1 at the following site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson1.htm I also see at the following site that the San Antonio Historical and Genealogical Society offers courses in both beginner and intermediate genealogy: http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etxsaghs2/educatn.htm I started out in 1976 with a small paperback book that I bought at a bookstore in one of the San Antonio malls. The following site gives you county names when you only know the name of the town and state. You will need the county name to know where to find the information you are seeking. http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi From the above-mentioned site, I find that Pharr is in Hidalgo County. I also find this same information on the following alphabetical list of Texas towns: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/cities-p-t.htm A search of this latter site for a town with a name spelled like "Saspango" of "Saxpango" shows Saspamco in Wilson County. You may find another match that I missed. The following site shows the location of Texas counties in relation to one another: http://www.census-online.com/links/TX/ Notice that Hidalgo County is near the far southeastern tip of Texas, in an area known as the Rio Grande Valley. Wilson County is north of there, just southeast of Bexar County. Try searching for your paternal grandmother on the 1930 census for Saspamco, Wilson Co., TX. The 1940 census has not yet been released to the public. If you live in or near Bexar County, you can search the censuses at the downtown branch of the San Antonio Public Library. I have had no experience with Indian records, so I can't be of much help there. A librarian in the Texana (genealogy) section of the downtown branch of the San Antonio Public Library or another subscriber to this list might be able to give you some direction in that area. 2. Hello. I subscribed to this site a long time ago, but don't get around to reading the emails I receive much, due to school and work. I am interested in finding more information about a town that my paternal grandmother grew up in (early 1900's to 1930's), which doesn't seem to exist anymore (Saspango? Saxpango?), as well as information on Apache records from Texas or Texas/Mexico, with the last name Soto (maternal grandmother) with roots in Farr (Pharr?), Texas. How do I get started from home? Thanks to anyone who may be able to help! =glo=
