I am told that Dr. Andrew Wilson Desmuke or Dr. A. W. Desmuke who is found in the 1860 census in Bexar County did the first appendectomy in the Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. I was also told recently that his picture is in the lobby of the hospital. Can anyone verify this information and give me a source? He is also supposed to have started a drugstore or pharmacy in San Antonia with a Dr. Herff. How can I verify this? Judy Burdick

I am trying to find any information of my great grandparent(s) of Shafter Texas. My great grandmother had the name of Baeza. She came to the US from Mexico. We do not know much about her but she had a son named Adolfo who eventually married Jacinta Rivera and then had a family of Jose, Lauro (my father), Carlos, Jesus, Rosa, Adolfo. Does anyone know what family surname owned the house built about 1850 that still stands on the property now owned by Gunn Honda out IH 10 West near Loop 1604 and UTSA? Running water was a feature of this stately home; a water tank affixed to the roof made this one of the first buildings to offer such a luxury. The Vance House passed through various owners; at one time, it was home to Texas State Employment Service.
