I have just found a possible link to my missing Confederate relative, Elijah Gore! A Sarah J. Gore is listed in the Confederate Pension Records as the wife of Elijah GORE, living in Bell County at the time she applied for a pension. Elijah was born in 1831 in Bradford County, PA and was in the South at the start of the War. Against the wishes of his family, he signed up with the 1st Louisiana Cavalry and served valiantly under Col. Scott. In 1863 he was captured and spent the rest of the War in Yankee prisons. He had no apparent contact with his family after the War and they presumed he was dead. This spring I found a reference to him in Yandell Hospital in Meridian, MS at the end of the War and the trail had stopped there. AS far as my research has taken me, my Elijah is the only Elijah GORE who fought for the Confederacy. AS you may tell, I am quite excited to have found this reference. I have sent off to the State Archives for this record to verify it is him.....in the mean time, I am requesting any leads that you may know of to further my search for Elijah....any local records of Confederate Veterans, local historians who could help, local cemetery records that I could search....etc. I would appreciate any information that you may point me to. Thanks! Mike Wennin
