Something you all may also want to check in BELL and Wmson Cos. is a file called "UNRECOVERED DOCUMENTS". This file lists all original documents not claimed...marriage lisc., etc. I can check the file for you. Wmson Co. has kept theirs safe in a vault and the one I saw, dated in the early 1800's, looked like it had been issued that very day. I think every county in the US does this but sometimes, even among experienced researchers, it is a little-known fact. If you find one belonging to an ancestor...in Wmson Co....you have to send in a request and the fee for mailing and a photo copy of your driver's lisc. The clerk at Wmson Co. said that since I do research to supplement my retirement income, that she would accept these requests and fees and copy of driver's lisc. from me......however, I would much prefer to find out if you have a document to be collected and then send you the form and let you send the items directly to the courthouse. You just have to request the document and give as much information about the persons as you can......or, they can send you an uncertified or certified copy if you would prefer to have that. I don't mind doing lookups if you will send me the names and what information you have and then wait patiently. Instead of paying me for copy/mailing, I would prefer if you would return the courtsey to someone with ancestors in the county in which you live. I will send you an uncertified copy and a form from the county office so that you can order a certified copy...those are usually more expensive...anywhere from $5 to $10. I will put the names you have mentioned in your posts in my Research Notebook and will look for them the next time I get to the courthouse. In case you would like to request a lookup from the Wmson. Co. Clerk, here is the addy - you can request a form: Nancy E. Rister County Clerk Williamson County P.O. Box 18 Georgetown, TX 78627-0018 Birth Certificate: Fee $11.00 Death Certificate: Fee $9.00 - Add'l $3.00# Requested Marriage Certificate: Fee $6.00 for a certified copy $1.00 for an uncertified, plain copy Military Discharge: Fee $6.00 To get a death certificate for someone for genealogy research in this county, the person has to have been dead for at least 50 years. If the person has been dead for less than 50 years, you can contact the clerk's office and discuss it with them. Hope this helps someone. I don't have a form from Bell Co. As soon as I get one I will send the information the to list. Ann Bartlett ----------
