Joe is correct. I contacted the Land Office in Austin Tx about my greatgrandfather's deed in Bell County about a week ahead of time. I was traveling to Austin and wanted to stop in and get a copy of the deed. If you go to Austin yourself, let them know ahead of time what you are looking for and what copies you want. They have a lot of files there and it takes time and personnel to search. They have the orginals. Otherwise they will not make copies while you wait, they will mail them to you. The prices for copies are listed on their web site listed below. They were very nice and helpful while I was there. I even got to examine the originals. They even have maps of the county with each deed listed. Good Luck and Happy Holidays, Jo L in TN [email protected] wrote: Surnames: McClung Message Board Post: I do see that Henry C. McClung was one of the original Texas landowners in the area which was to become Bell County. It shows to be abstract 570. You might contact the county clerk's office or the state General Land Office to see if you can get a copy of the deed: http://www.bellcountytx.com/countyclerk/index.htm http://www.glo.state.tx/archives This is probably the info you found already: http://wwwdb.glo.state.tx.us/central/LandGrants/landgrants.cfm?intID=99548 Good luck...
