    3. Thanks for the link to the old pictures of Belton. I didn't recognize any specific houses, but they could have been almost any house in Belton before World War II. I had forgotten those narrow gravel streets with no curbs or sidewalks. That was typical until after the war. Only a few main streets were paved before 1946. There were a lot of nicer houses in Belton, since areas around railroad tracks are normally not as nice as other part of town, but there were many of the type shown in the pictures. I had said in an earlier e-mail that the old smoke stack from the oil mill was torn down shortly after it was struck by lightning in the late 30's; my husband has told me it was still there in 1951 when we married and he moved to Belton.
